Vaccuum pump (not turbo) leaking oil.
Went to a meet in Shropshire last night and arrived to find oil dripping down from under the bonnet. Yep, seal blown on turbo by the looks of things, that's if I'm correct in what I'm looking at, belt driven wabco "thingy" to right of egine as you look at it from the front.

Still, the bonnet won't rust!

Out of interest, and to soften the blow before I ring around later, anyone got an idea how much it's going to hurt the wallet?

Looks like it's a 2a weekend.

Don't think that is the turbo, think that is the vacuum pump. Common thing I believe.

Sure an adult with transit knowledge will be along shortly to confirm.

Warranty???

Its the vac pump - you need the new one and seal - its not the turbo, the turbo is not belt driven Mike

Thanks all. Will look further into it. I have read somewhere about it being a common fault, for some reason I thought it was the turbo that was mentioned.

Anyway, thanks again. He's going in this afternoon.

No warranty, it expired in March.

Cheers all!

Just to be sure I've just called the stealer to see if there was any outstanding warranty issues, but there isn't, so whilst I was on the phone I asked how much, as I'm obviously going to shop around. £489. Yep, I'm shopping around.

£489 for the vac pump?! Shocked Outrageous!

The part is about £70 from a dealer (or was when I bought one a year ago) and takes less than half-an-hour to fit (it took me about 15 minutes and I hadn't done one before). Even with an hour's labour the bill shouldn't be more than about £200.

Probably a good item to have spare in your truck if they can be fitted by the DIY'er - maybe!

You shouldn't really need to carry a spare; it was only the early ones with a single-lip seal that fail. Once you've changed it it should last a long time.

Had mine sorted by a dealer a couple of months back now and all in it was £185. As has been mentioned the new Vacum pumps are/have double seals? Sweep
