United Kingdom 2013 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Corris Grey
Lightning, it's very useful to hear your views. A nice bit of nuance makes a change.

A lot of people who talk down on the New Defender have never even looked inside one. Those that have, only did so to prove it's not a "real" Land Rover to gain fake internet points on forums or get 2 views on their Youtube channel.

Your indecision over sticking with it or buying back your old one is completely understandable, but these are two very different vehicles. The fact your old one was still for sale proves your decision making was correct.

l love the new one. l think in D250 Hardtop version it's as near to the old one as you'll get. Although still a completely different vehicle.

It still feels like you are driving a Land Rover, and l wouldn't swap it for one of the old ones now.

I still love the old Defenders and will get another eventually, when this one comes to the end of its life probably. The £55,000 it cost was a one-off for me partly due to the govt "super deduction" tax initiative that ran until March 2023.

The new one does everything well, on road, off road, towing. The 3.0 diesel is awesome and doesn't even sound like a diesel.

We also have a 2020 Jimny and the two vehicles make an interesting comparison. The Jimny is much more like an old Defender, and seemed a bargain at under £20,000. lf it was 25% bigger it would be perfect.
The Jimny is actually better off road (in some cases) than the new Defender because it's so small and light, it never seems to get bogged down.

The Jimny looks tiny in comparison!

We used to have a 2002 Jimny as an off road toy and the size and weight of them get to places where if nothing else a bigger 4x4 can't fit, would love a new Jimny similar to yours but they have yet to start to drop to affordable toy status for myself

Sadly Suzuki stopped importing them in 2020 due to emissions (all their vehicles are now hybrid or mild hybrid and the Jimny isn't)

You can get a 2 seat "Commercial" version but the 4 seat SZ5 like ours currently sells at around £25,000
Motorway's latest offer for ours yesterday was £25,600. l can't see values falling in the near future.

You may be better off with an old Defender. Prices seemed to have fallen for those although you'll still need upwards £15,000 for a good TD5 Station Wagon.

The Jimny isn't actually quite as small as it looks in that picture. In this photo it almost looks as big as
the Defender!
lt's the angle of the photo. ln reality it's somewhere in between the two.
