D200 vs D240
Hello all,

I'm about to place an order for S trim with a couple of extras (off road pack + park heat) in pangea green.

The only thing I'm not 100% sure is the engine, is D200 powerful enough. I did an extended (3h) test drive on D240 and it fills great. I have contacted 6-7 local dealers and unfortunately non of them have D200 for a test drive.

I would appreciate hearing your opinion on whether to go with D200 or D240 considering the price difference of £3k.

I also contacted LR customer support and here is their response: "Our Technical Team have confirmed this is achieved by different PCM (Power-train Control Module) mapping and the Turbo boost settings." so basically it's the same engine just with different software settings.

It’s the same engine just a different “map” - my test drive was in a D200 and while it wasn’t a snail it also didn’t want to be hurried. The extra 40 horses in the D240 are worth having. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Interestingly a lot of mercs were like this, many use the same engine bit depending on what you choose they almost turn the key to unlock more power...


Assuming you get no other extras with the D240 over the D200 and you check with your insurance / warranty? there will be lots of tuning companies offering remaps if you find its not got as much vrooom as you like?


Bowler have been seen to be looking at the New Defender so kits / upgrades will be around.


Quick google found this, they remap it to 260 Bhp for £330, however I would be tempted to choose someone like bowler on a new car,

So Save a couple of Thousand and possibly get more power....

I’m looking at D200, D240 is good but the D200 will need to be really bad to justify the £3k extra for D240. As I want a base 110 I can’t have the D240, so that would be £7k to my build to upgrade to S spec and not really sure what I’m getting for it, 40hp, part leather seats and a digital dash.

Thank you all for your input. Will still try to test drive D200 and if it’s not too slow will go for D200. Managed to speak to a few tuning companies and all of them confirmed that they will be able to remap in near future, I believe it will void the warranty though.

Yes it will definitely void the warranty, my mate just wreaked his x5m50 cause of a re map so be careful, he took the map off and bmw still could tell he had been messing around with it.

Hi,

Managed to do a test drive (3h) of D200 yesterday, I have also done a test drive of D240 a couple of weeks ago and I think there is very little difference between these two versions.

The only time I was noticing difference in dynamics is on the motorway. When I was driving at 70mph and wanted to accelerate to overtake a car in front of me it was a bit slow, otherwise great engine.

Going to place an order for D200 in next few days, trying to get some sort of dealer contribution but so far I managed to get only £1000, the rest of the dealers wouldn’t even offer a pound off.

Who did you try? 3rd week in sept they may play ball to hit a target on a physical car. 1951 80" S1 2.0

And then there's a potential clash with SOTA:

Software Updates may not install correctly if your vehicle has non-standard
software or hardware;
(d) Software Updates will overwrite current software on the vehicle. This may
also apply to any third party non-standard software on the vehicle

Tried LR: battersea, Colchester, st albans, Watford, west London, north west London and my local Barnet.
I don’t mind waiting. Do think this will apply to factory orders too or only in stock cars?

They will need one registered in Sept to hit a target I would think. End of year after Christmas usually quiet for them. 1951 80" S1 2.0
