Belties

Had our first cows arrive yesterday. We’ve had Belties on the ground before but they weren’t ours. These four are 12 months old and will mature at about 30 months. I’m fretting like a new parent!

Very nice. One of my neighbours used to have White Galloways. I just love their black ears and nose.

Superb, Huttopia Thumbs Up

I follow Tom Pemberton's Farm Life on Instagram and YouTube. He has a dairy and beef farm near Blackpool and also Izzy Rainey's - heytherefarmgirl who is also on Instagram and has Highland Cows just down the road from me in Foulsham, Norfolk. I have never had anything to do with cattle (I was bought up on a Pig Farm), but I must say that I really can now see the appeal of cattle.

Keep the photos coming as the grow up please

It was quite funny, I was asked to go and select these four from about ten. My wife gave me the helpful advice of ‘select the pretty ones with the fluffy ears’. I took my son and we picked the quietest ones. He’s as keen as mustard and has been up and down the lane checking on them all day and dropping a bit of food in the bucket too.

I’m fetching a handful of Herdwicks from
Cumbria in August too. I’m hoping that between them the Belties and the Herdwicks will do well on the steep scrubby ground up the back here, conservation grazers at different levels. 🤞

Herdwicks Smile Hope you have good fences. I had a stray in off the mountain and stuck her in my shed behind 6 foot walls and gates Called my neighbour to come and fetch her. Turned up next day but she was gone!

Love the Belties by the way. Lovely looking cattle. I used to breed Red Devons here but the TB testing job took the shine off it. Currently have a pair of Luing (Highland cross) steers as the freezer is getting a bit empty.

i was laughing at a video of a cow playing with a ball. It was mooing with delight! You would have thought it was a dog the way it was playing with it.
