Australia 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver
I can only hope.

A TDV6 is the answer. (2.7 or 3.0 Ltr)
Better choice in motor range may be the answer or at least a motor that covers the needs of more people.
Defender is a British 4x4 but lets forget about that and road tax etc etc. Landrover needs to sell more units.

I just want a current model with a bigger engine, 2.4Ltr is to small for my needs.

For Landrover to prosper it needs to produce a vehicle that appeals to a greater, market/range of people WORLD WIDE. It can't cater to a minority any more. It will wither on the vine if a 2.2Ltr motor is the only engine choice offered in the next model.

I love the defender, though have been looking at the Toyota 76 4.5Ltr TD as Landrover presently don't offer anything but the 2.4Ltr. I really don't want a Toyota but options are limited.

People have said the defender will tow a 2.3T caravan around. (comfortably) I have seen the local guys around my area that specialise in Landrovers and engine Chipping. They say the puma will tow 1.8T OK 2.3T will struggle. Towing a van 100KPH for 5000Plus Kms in a few weeks and terrain (Great Dividing Range) present challenges that I'd need a larger donk under the bonnet.

In Australia Landrover sales of the Defender over the last couple of years didn't get much above the thirties per month. Though I believe the motor size is a stubbling block in unit sales.

Landrover Please fit a bigger donk.... in Defender.

Thats Censored - a defender will tow 3.5t all day long without problem or issue - i dont think ive seen my farmer friends 90 without a trailer on the back, he admits most of the time overloaded! Mike

Depends where they intend to target for sales. Some countries tax by the cc and big engines suffer badly due to this. Others -like our new system-tax on emissions and the current Land Rover range fares badly. They will look at the hard facts and see where the biggest return will be and concentrate there. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

We're a small market around here ... I've owned a 90SW Td5, bought in 99 ... Cost me 20.000€ ... Today it costs 70.000 due to tax ( bigger engine cm3 -biiiiigger taxes + plus a fee for Co2 emissions)... I bought a 110DC because it's considered a comercial vehicle so it pays only 40% vehicle tax ... even so it cost me 34.000€ ... a lot more than in most countries ...

I'd love to have a Defender with bigger engine ... I hope the new one will be like that ... But if and when that day arrives a Land Rover with 5 seats around here will be only for very rich people! Razz ... Comercial 2 seater will be the only one possible for the most of us ...

On the outside I just hope that the Defender maintains it's character and wont turn in to an "all round and bubbly" car like the rest ... Neutral Regards
Joao
