Swivel pin slop
Got a fair bit of movement on hub thinking of having a go at replacing swivels and cv joints is it Suitable job for bodger like myself
Also how safe to keep using only transport at moment might take week or so for partswatched a couple of videos but a bit aprehnsive
Incase I cock it up any advise greatly appreciated Endeavour To Persevere

You will need a spring balance for the pre-load

You will need a DTI gauge for the "float" if you have the newer single hub nut

and a 13mm ring spanner (due to access issue)

Would you still need a DTI gauge if you’re not changing the hubs or bearings ? I’d have thought the spacer would remain the same.
You should be able to adjust swivel Preload without removing the swivel from the axle but you will need to remove the swivel seal to give an accurate reading from the spring gauge . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/

What sort of movement are you trying to fix? Swivels and CVs would give very different symptoms.

The "hub movement" is possibly wheel bearing or swivel pin, but I'd say more likely to be wheel bearing.

Pin and cv
Bit confused now play is up down movement took shim out swivel no difference should I replace wheel bearings first
Was going to replace cv as have knocking on full lock Endeavour To Persevere

It could be the swivel bearings themselves, you may have to delve a bit deeper and dismantle the hub . A bit of a pain but not too difficult , just be methodical and follow the book .

A DTi gauge is used (on a defender) to measure the end float and allows you to select the correct spacer to sit between the bearing races . The new single hub nut system uses this method . The older method used two nuts and didn’t require a dti gauge but instead used torque settings to get the correct pressure on the bearings . You can swap to the old system if preferred as I have done .
It makes changing bearings a lot easier for the DIY or bush mechanic and doesn’t require sitting around waiting for a mail order spacer Of the right size to arrive !!
Either method is totally acceptable and nobody really knows why Land Rover changed it other than to simplify the manufacturing process on the factory floor . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/
