2.4 Puma 90 Blower not working
Hi All,

I am new to this forum and 6 months into ownership of my first Defender, a 2.4 90 XS station wagon and everything has been peachy so far. Looking for some advise on a problem that has come up.

Yesterday the blower started to cut out intermitnatly unless it was on full speed setting. After another 15 miles down the road the blower stoped working on all settings.

As soon as I got home a quick google suggested that it could be the heater resistor, ordered one for £25 which comes tomorrow.

First question - Before I start taking bits apart in true amateur spannering style on the driveway, is the resistor accessible to plug and unplug and where is the location ?

Second question - If I fail to fix it with the resistor replacement can anyone recommend a good Indie in the West Sussex area?

Thanks in advance.

The resistor accessible can be removed from the side of blower motor fan plastic housing

The drawing shows the LHD heater box, on RHD it's on the same side of the box, but the box is obviously on the other side Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

*Update*

Replaced the resistor today, fiddly job but it was okay. Unfortunately it did not solve my problem Sad

Interestingly the fans blow when A/C is on but no adjustment in the speed. When a\c is off no blow.

Any suggestions on next port of call before I take it in ?

Thanks,

It is not unknown for the bulbs that illuminate the heater controls to melt the fan switch in the control panel, causing this sort of effect. Unfortunately the heater control panel is available only as an assembly and is shockingly expensive.

Generally if this has happened the slider won't slide smoothly. If yours does still move smoothly it probably isn't this problem.

As the blower is working when A/C is switched on, there is only one thing that can cause the problem - the switch itself. Maybe the connector of the switch is not connected the right way?
