Some experience from my retro-fit heated screen into my 1984 90!
I did this around 10-12 years ago. I was offered 2 types of heated screen, a 2-wire and a 4-wire, and a clear or tinted version for both.
Being a bit naive with these electric things I chose the very slightly cheaper 2-wire as I reckoned it would be easier to install, I was WRONG!
Both screens have 2 zones for the heated sections, but the 2-wire connects them both together as a single circuit connection, whereas the 4-wire has 2 separate circuits, one zone per circuit. What I have found with my 2-wire setup is that the screen is pitifully slow to do its job!
My D2 has also been retro-fitted with a heated front screen, using the JLR standard loom that was pre-wired to accept an HFS, but the difference between the 2 is that the D2 one is dramatically quicker to do its job! It's quite obvious really, the 4-wire one has 2 circuits, one for each zone (left & right) whereas the Def one has a single circuit powering twice the area of the 4-wire! The screen on my 90 is now de-laminating badly at the bottom of the screen, resulting in large sections that no longer work. I intend to fit another bulkhead and will replace the screen with a 4-wire one fairly soon, re-wiring the circuitry to accommodate the extra circuit!
As I said above, the screen is de-laminating at the bottom, as shown in the bottom couple of inches going milky! I bought the screen through a plant glazing company, I intend to buy a better quality screen next time also, probably a Pilkington one as they are OEM!
