No, just a Garmin on the windscreen, but wired from out of the rear of the dash. |

Just to say my 2nd hand Defender came with a wire and plug sticking out the top centre of the dash, just below the windscreen, just as Chay has seen. I presume this was to power the previous owners Satnav or phone etc...

I have done what you are talking about. The power cable for my Garmin 276C comes through a hole I drilled in the top of the dash and is hard wired to a multi cigarette lighter socket I fitted to the side of the console in the passenger foot well. It is easy to remove the the front of the centre console, just undo the 2 screws in the front of the centre console and use a wide blade to pop the whole thing forwards. This gives access to the area behind and routing cables becomes quite easy.

Many thanks for the advice, you must be right as my chum now tells me that Halfords charge £39.99 for doing the same thing, so it must be both easy and take less than 10 minutes! |

You need to fit a cigar lighter behind the dash to power the nav,you can't just cut the end off the lead and tap into a feed. |

Many thanks for that piece of advice, maybe that's what Halfords charge the £40.00 for, the extra cig lighter.... |
