United Kingdom 2006 Defender 90 Td5 HT Java Black
Now that I've done the mod on the clutch it's great, much easier on the leg, only problem is that it 'creaks' now when releasing, has anyone had the same?
I've greased the spring but it still creaks. It's started driving me mad Sad
Any ideas to stop the spring making a noise?

I've tried copper grease, silicone etc, but it still creaks.
There must be an easy cure?

Since there has been loads of defenders doing this mod, has anyone found a cure to this creaking noise yet because for purely selfish reasons I need to know as I'm thinking of doing this Saturday Thumbs Up 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

To cure the creak, you need to go in from the top of the pedal box. Open the bonnet and remove the six screws that hold the plate onto the pedal box. Remove this and lubricate the pivot point of the pedal. I used GT-85 on mine. Steer clear of silicon based lubes due to the close proximity of the clutch master cylinder seals.

I did mine a few months ago. Not a squeak since.

Thanks DJ, that's my first job of 2015 booked in!
I only gave the new spring itself and the plastic nipples a smear of grease and it had little effect.

^^^ Well I tried greasing everything but after a couple of days it started to creak again and drove me mad, so I've taken the new spring out and gone back to the old spring, harder on the left leg but doesn't drive me round the bend now.

Well.. thanks to Green Machine and Andy Jeff Bow down
My co driver at 57 kg and with grandkids - she didn't find stop start traffic a lot of fun Sad
Had a kit from Britpart a year ago as part of a prize. So eventually in sunshine
... followed the experts on this excellent froum
took out carpets. levered off old spring, had a cup of tea
Britparts two rubber bushes clip in no problem. Also the U shaped bush into the clutch pedal. (Followed the tip, use a bit of wire to pull into place)
Fit the spring, compress pedal and wedge.
The first side of Britparts new spring can be levered into the bush reasonably easily - but the second - I had to 'bend' the end of spring round the metal eye on the clutch pedal arm that was the location of the old spring, and just graunch the second side of the new spring into it's location.
Multiple goes, made a heap of a mess of the rubber bush that second side. But I think it will stay in place and be a happy little spring. Unlikely to rattle out, the ends of the spring stick well thro the bushes/holes.

Result - much better clutch. Thanks again to this forum. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz
Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ...

As per ppad above, I'm having a lot of hassle trying to force the spring back to get it into the second bush. One side ok, the other near impossible! Result is I've abandoned it just now, will try again when I feel I need a bit of a challenge. Looking forward to Mrs R being able to drive the motor. Just a note, it didn't feel much easier to push down once I'd removed the original Spring, how does the new spring make it any lighter?

Be sure to fully depress the clutch pedal and hold it in place with a pole or some such device. Put all bushings in place and hook the loop onto the back of the clutch pedal and then pop the two top parts into the round pushings. Should take about five minutes. Yep, had the wife pressing the clutch pedal down while I tried in vain to attach the second side of the spring. I'll give it a go later in the week again, everyone else seems to have had little hassle with it, it must be do-able. I'll post if and when I get it in...........

Did mine by pulling the spring right up on both side with zip ties which made it very easy to fit
Once fitted I then just snipped the zip ties and it was done
Took about 10 minutes once I had figured how to do it

You don't need to take out the clutch pedal!
The job is made much easier if you release the pedal from the master cylinder threaded pushrod by removing the nut.
This enables the clutch pedal to go a fair bit higher than it normally does, and the spring is then much easier to fit.
