The whoosh would normally come from dump valve .. tdcis use VVT without dump valve .

Hi,

This relates to a topic I just posted (sorry I looked for ages but didnt see this topic before posting)

I have a 2.4 tdci, Alive 150bhp remap.

I am trying to understand what sound i will get if I go with either

1 - an alive decat system........is it the decat that creates the whoosh (which I am not sure if I want)
2 - a twisted catback system - with a single silencer behind the cat and then straight through.

Any thughts ..... especially from the guys who just posted about the whoosh type noise being from a valve.....does that happen when you decat ? because you dont hear it with a normal exhaust system ?

The “whoosh” always happens but it is muted by the cat and exhaust silencers.

With the cat and one silencer in place it will be ever so slightly “whooshy” and then with no cat more “whooshy” again but not ultra rudeboy > 110 XS Double Cab

Thanks Hank,

So if I went for the twisted catback system I am gonna get a little whoosh (which I can live with). Have you any experience of twisted catback system or ever heard one ?

I am hoping it will give a lower rumble and burble on tick over building to a rasp when you peak the revs and change gear.

Any experience if you gain that sort of thing while leaving the cat and 1 silencer in the system ?

Ive just got a stainless steel straight through pipe..
And wen accelerating from a low speed lets say(30mph) in a high gear 5-6th is doea sound v nice...nice low grunty noise...can here from the cab and also get comments from neighbouring friends saying it almost sounds like a V8

So im happy wiv that

That sounds like the sort of exhaust note I am looking for...... not loud and in your face all the time but a nice low grumbling noise when you use the torque of the engine to accelerate.

When you say you have a straight through stainless...... do you mean straight through from the cat back or have you removed the cat too ?

I will just add that without cat or silencers mine just sounds a bit more throaty/aggressive when driven ‘normally’. It’s only when driven in a spirited manner it goes into full song > 110 XS Double Cab

Well it has had a remap up to 165bhp dunno if that makes a difference..
Exhaust side of things...its only just a straight through to replace that big long silencer about in the middle ish of the chassis...
