Not so sure the new heated Speaker LED headlight has ECE approval (or even DOT approval in USA) for passenger cars. The J.W. Speaker website talks about the heated version being only for «heavy-duty truck applications » and « available for transport applications only ». If that would be correct, why so? Would be a pity as a heated LED headlight could be interesting for us too. Link below.

That page doesn't say only for heavy truck use.

I've no idea what 'transport' use is. Are cars not transport? Anyway, if you dig a little deeper, the specs page describes how the ECE (HEATED) version isn't US compliant and visa versa, which is what I suspect it was getting at:

The J.W. Speaker says that the lights are approved under UNECE R112 which applies to vehicles in categories, L, M, N and T.

Catogory L would apply to motor cycles, M standard cars, N goods vehicle with various load carrying capacity and T is agricultural machines.

Defenders come under vehicle category N so I can not see any reason why they are not road legal in Europe.

Some of the wording on specifications from manufacturers can be interesting. Dockland Light Railway DLR in a light rather then Daytime Running Light DRL. Or a halo position light suddenly becoming a DRL!
