Australia 1996 Defender 110 300 Tdi SW Caledonian Blue
Paris Motor Show
Maybe it will happen?
Published on the JLR website 27th September 2018

https://media.jaguarlandrover.com/news/201...motor-show

"The bespoke Discovery will star alongside the exclusive Range Rover SV Coupé and the modern-day interpretation of where it all started, the Land Rover Series I ‘Reborn’."

If it's not now, I fear it might never happen at all.

I hope it doesn't, as personally I liked the DC100 much more than anything else LR currently make, and if the pricing had been right I would have considered one over my 1 series BMW as a daily driver.

However I can only see the failure to produce a new defender being good for those of us that own an old one in terms of resale values. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but a JLR description worded: "...where it all started, the Land Rover Series I ‘Reborn’." gives me some hope it will be better than the DC100 concept. That looked like a Mini Cooper with bloat to my eyes.

I guess we only have a couple of days to wait before we see. It might only be another "concept" to keep us going for another 5 years Rolling Eyes

I think that just means they will bring along a couple of series 1s that found in your outback area shipped to Coventry and restored.

They wouldn't need to be making a fuss of the V8 defenders and Series 1s to prove something if they had a true spiritual successor to the Defender. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Mmmmmmm, nahh, I reckon it's more than just old ones with a new motor. You need more than that up your sleeve to announce you have a "modern-day interpretation of..."

Maybe I'm just too damn hopeful that Land Rover is making an under the radar announcement and has a great big surprise for us all. But they have disappointed me before. In fact over and over again.

The Reborn is just the Series1 restoration, nothing new to show us.
Hopefully the Suzuki Jimny will be there, a real modern interpretation of the original. Realistic price, no premium lifestyle BS. I might buy one too.

As mentioned, the Reborn is not the new Defender; however, there is most definitely a new Defender and I'd be surprised if we don't see it revealed at Geneva Auto Show in 2019, if not before.

I just Googled it. Yep, another waste of time. If I could delete this thread, I would. Sorry.

Well, the new Nitra, Slovakia, plant seems up and running with test production of the D5 right now. Probably this means that before year end the D5 line will be fully operational there. The new Defender is supposed to be produced in Nitra too as a second JLR model for that factory. Press launch in Geneva March 2019 might be the right time, it would allow them another year from now on to get that second model assembly line, staff hiring and training, etc. all ready to go for new Defender production as of fall 2019. Such timing could well be the ideal logistics for JLR.
We will see, said the blind man.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
