Stainless steel caliper pistons
Thinking of rebuilding my genuine AP calipers, same old story on them - wiper seal has come out and the exposed piston is rusty.

I’ve seen a few different places advertising stainless steel pistons, but my question I guess is has anyone tried the different “brands” and how well have they lasted and fitted?

Thanks

I have used EAC parts stainless pistons with no issues still would recommend using genuine seals and retainers Thumbs Up Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

I've used this bunch in the past

Their pistons used to come with a lifetime warranty, but I'm unsure if they still do 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

There was a post on this recently my advice then was don't bother with stainless pistons just buy a complete new caliper it will last pretty much as long and the price difference will not be massivebefore labour. Cheers

I agree with James, above.
Having both overhauled calipers and replaced with new, I would recommend direct replacement with new now, just from the point of view of ease of replacement and time taken to do so. AP Lockheed calipers aren't expensive compared to the cost of overhauling and I really don't think that trying to save money and extend the service life of worn, under performing safety critical items is particularly good practice.

Indeed, replacement is still be best option while calipers are still available so easily and cheaply.

I rebuilt a set of front ones many years ago with stainless pistons and they worked well, however the pistons still tarnished over time requiring cleaning and the seal retainers still rust and fall out just as easily. So I saw no benefit over just junking the calipers are replacing them.
