Double din and extending cables
So near and yet so far.

Got the double din dash panel all ok. Sony in, but relocating switches has left me with some connectors not having enough reach.

Now I realise I could cut and extend with a soldering iron, but are there any elegant extension options with male to female connectors that would aid me not cutting cables?

Hi. I have done this but utilised a load of old switch bodies to suit the extension plug and then purchase new connectors of the correct colour and made the loom as required. It was quite a process and possibly over the top, it worked well for me. It all Allows me to place it back to stock if required in the future . An example is shown here

Hope that helps.

Personally I'd splice and solder them. Soldering in an automotive loom isn't the ideal solution, but several plug and sockets in free air will soon get very bulky!

Thanks both.

I think I can get away with extending 2.

I like the idea of a new connector with the male equivalent on the other end, but they dont exist or I'd have to make it up as you say.

I have ordered some wire, heat shrink, and a soldering iron!

One of the "click" switches no longer clicks and doesnt hold - are they fragile?

Something has also gone wrong with heated seat on drivers side - switch is ok - if I plug the passenger in it lights up so that says the connector has gone bad?

Good news, all done and quite neat if I say so myself.

The heated seat was just a fuse, and it turns out the heated front screen switch doesnt stay clicked it's a "press once for on, once for off" type.

All good!
