Where's Wally?......or ...where's the spill rail banjo bolt?
So.... ordered a new fuel spill rail for the 300tdi.

(I know now that I could have just got some fuel hose, and pushed it onto the existing fittings, but hey ho.)

I hadn't realised that I needed a new banjo nut and washers to fit this, or that I needed a new nut and olive to connect to the fuel return pipe.

But....by Censored where is the part number for these things? I have found the ones for the olive and nut - though via a web search, not via the parts diagrams - but I just cannot find the banjo nut. I've looked at the parts pages for the fuel system, and for the engine but I just cannot see it. I'm quite prepared to be told it's there, just that I can't see it...

Or, I wonder if it's something of a generic banjo nut, like the ones on the fuel filter; or on the turbo oil feed hose, so that anyone used to Land Rovers would say "oh, it's one of those" - just that I haven't yet had any cause to disturb those.

I've managed to get going again by simply replacing the 'last', longer pipe from the rocker cover down to the fuel pump. I used some 3.2mm internal diameter fuel pipe, but I hope this is just temporary until I can get all the other wee bits and pieces to fit the proper spill rail.

Two out of the three pipes linking the injectors were squashed nearly flat, and the one from the rocker to the fuel pump was punctured, so after leaving the car for a few days it would take longer to crank. My thought was that maybe air was getting into the system, and letting fuel drain back down to the tank.

Thanks Mash... I do appreciate the reply - but I'm sorry to say that's not what I'm after.. Crying or Very sad

I got that kit. It's the larger banjo nut - where the othe end of the spill rail fits onto the back of the fuel pump. At the bottom of your second pic, you can see the pipe, but no nut shown...! Donald

Thanks again - that looks about right.

Which/where is that parts diagram? It's different, possibly newer than the one I've been looking at, which doesn't show that bolt. Donald

Hi Mash, Thanks again. That worked fine. I'll need to load it down onto the PC. On an ipad just now, and it's always a bit glitchy with big pdfs.

Cheers.

There are a few parts missing from the old paper parts manuals. Most are included in the later ones and the online electronic version:

This tallies with the military catalogue above.

Thanks Retro - I wasn't familiar with that reference either - good to know.

My Luddite streak says it's not as intuitive as good old paper though! Donald
