DPF or gearbox cabin heat
This is the second longer range trip we have done in warmer climates. I’m again disappointed by the level of heat transmitted through the floors, seat boxes and footwells into the passenger cabin. We have air con but it doesn’t really touch the sides when everything becomes an emitter of heat.

My take on it is the DPF making the most output but maybe the gearbox and transfer box are just as much a culprit? I can’t recall this much on our 2.4 or TD5 and we toured around in them at 70mph.

Our Dynamat has started to become runny and a sticky mess.

Anyone attacked this issue? 1951 80" S1 2.0

I put some of the foil covered sound deadening on the underside of the cover under the cubby box, it doesn't get hot in there anymore.

You can do the same to the gearbox tunnel if you want. You can just get the self adhesive foil on it's own will do the same thing in terms of temperature control.

My 2.4 became noticeably cooler in the cabin when I removed the cat. Another interesting characteristic is that if you have any of the windows open you get much more heat in the footwells, and the only explanation I can come up with for this is that with the window open air is drawn from the cabin allowing hot air from the transmission area to be sucked in through the characteristic incredibly well-sealed Landrover floor.

The floor in the vicinity of the transmission certainly will get too hot to touch and could be contributing to your heat problem, but I imagine that the DPF must be a very significant heat source, hotter and larger than the 2.4's cat.

The floor and handbrake of my 2.2 became really hot on a long run. I drove 740 miles in one go with only a stop for Dover Calais ferry and Fuel. I did it barefoot and at one point I had to put my left foot on the plastic handle on the handbrake because the floor was so hot. As it cooled off in the evening and we slowed through Paris it all cooled significantly. I just put it down to exhaust and dpf in 40plus degrees.

remove centre silencer replace with a straight through pipe this reduces weight and heat with little change in noise levels and isn't illegal like removing the CAT, just be careful what you buy they are not all a good fit. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I think my local MOT tester will have a field day when I tell him I removed the DPF for heat reasons.... 1951 80" S1 2.0

I suppose it is the cat/dpf creating the heat, however I notice when driving in cold e.g. sub zero weather that the area down the sides of the seats (between them and the cubby) gets really cold, so much so I tend to stuff a jumper or similar down there.
Point being, clearly that area is poorly insulated. 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2
