fitting an auto box in a td5 defender
Hi all,

first of all nice website, now just registered so i thought i'd put a post in, i like the idea of putting an autobox into my defender and i've heard of a few shed tinkering 300tdi conversions but td5 conversions, has anyone on here got any idea's or knowledge about fitting an autobox out of a disco 2 into a defender?, i have got an old land rover magazine which covers changing a manual to auto in a 300tdi Defender, does anyone know if the process is the simular? i would love to be able to put an auto box into my truck and i know that it can be done for about £2k commercially but i like the idea of doing it myself and saving a few quid. has anyone done one ? any pictures ? strange that land rover haven't done an auto model on the puma engines as well.

thankyou in advance

David at Ashcroft transmisions is your man for this job,he may give you some advise.
He has done many many conversion for the landrover crew.

He has also done the Auto conversion for the puma and i must say it drives very nice with the Compushift controler.

Regards Pete

HP24 is an upgraded version of the HP22 which is the std 300tdi auto box (it has uprated oil pump and TC)

TGV = The 300 tdi made under the International Banner with 2.8L and VVT giving 135bhp and 375Nm Cheers

Thanks for that is the HP24 the same Auto box Ashcroft are offering in the Puma, if so does it have similar gearing charateristics to the 6 speed we are used to. I would like to think that if I put an auto box in then I would be achieving similar RPM's to that of the 6 speed manual, espcially when in 6th cruising and in top on the Auto. Wink

Thanks Rich

i expect its a version of the HP24 but i dont know have you tried ringing Dave? or PM him off here. Gear ratios have no idea, i cant see that rpm would be the same though unless they have a specific gear set for it which they may well have. mine is a 4 speed with lockup Cheers
