Trip to France
In 2016 we finished or holiday just outside Briancon ,which we had enjoyed a lot and felt that there was more to do and see in that area. This year we decided to base ourselves at Mont Dauphin beside the Durance river about 20kms south of Briancon, In a great little campsite called La Fontaine very quiet and in a beautiful setting.

In the village of Mont Dauphin there is a fantastic Fort guarding the entrance to the valley , with fantastic views and wonderfull stonemasonary. Below the Fort is a track which leads you to Guillestre , past the Main du Titan.

The next day we crossed the main road to village called St Crepin were we picked up a track to take us over the Col du Lauzet and on to a fantastic setting where we had a relaxing afternoon.

With the weather being fantastic decided to stay up in the mountains and took on the Colle de la Cloche which led on to the Coi de Vallbelle which was a bit of an eye opener, it starts as a beautiful run through the forest and then comes out into open tundra, which is also very nice . Then you head skywards and crest the top of the Col with massive drops either side of you with about

2 meters of road to drive on. I said to my dear lady how about a photo ,but she was not going to let go of the grab rail and was breathing rather heavily at the time!!
This brought us up to a sky resort called Risoul were we picked up another track to take us down to Vars.

One track that I have always wanted to do is the Col de Parpaillon and drive through the tunnel , so off we set only to find it closed still due to the rough winter. We were lucky to talk to local biker who said it was going to be open the next day.[it pays to talk to people!]

So we drove to Barcelonnette to drive the track from the other end , and it was well worth it fantastic views , exciting track to drive and a wet and gloomy tunnei to drive through.
Had a few days walking in the area and then had to head home ,through the Loire and then back to the Normandy area to do some more D Day sights.
the area we stayed in is the Haute Alps and is stunning with some good trails to explore, which link into some of the classic tracks on the France Italian border.

Hope this gives an insite into what is a great part of the world, (and not too far away)
