Land Rover - do they compensate failures ahead of schedule?
Within the 2 yrs warranty / the 4 yrs extended warranty Land Rover paid almost anything freely.

If an output shaft fails after 4...8 yrs / 50000...100000 km - it is far too early for such a relevant mechanical component.

So Jaguar Land Rover - do they compensate such an early failure "ahead of schedule"?
Do JLR compensate failures of other (more expensive) components like engine, transfer case, clutch?

Or do Jaguar Land Rover take us (Defender drivers) for end-of-range ? Wink

Any personal experience? Neutral

Keep the warranty going
It’s costly but worth it for things like you state. Extended can be carried on for ten years or 100,000 miles. Courtesy car and breakdown included. It has to be continuous though if it has been allowed to lapse it can’t be restarted. Servicing must be done at set intervals but not necessarily by a main dealership but must use gen parts.
They offer the service so they don’t have to compensate because owners were given the opportunity to insure against failure.

If it's been main dealer serviced then for such an out of warranty repair JLR may offer a contribution as a gesture of goodwill. But it's unlikely they'd pay for the full cost unless you took them to court, which means seeking professional legal advice and knowing the relevant consumer protection legislation.

The only compensation I received after the catastrophic failure of my rear differential on a Discovery was a comfortable seat was offered for my use whilst I wrote the cheque which was extremely painful as the car was only two months out of three year warranty.
Three months later, on the same vehicle, the whole rear air suspension package needed to be replaced.........Out came the same chair again.
It's a good job I still love my Land Rovers as my wife most definitely does not Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Yapp. After the warranty period Land Rover have you pay anything.
Even if it is them who made the mistake.
It's an expensive divertissement.

I extend my warranty every year this been the second year its expensive but at my last service a few items <one> was changed I know that its not saved me the cost of a battery but if a major fail happens its covered .

defenders are expensive to run and land rover know how to charge Smile

Hi there, saving the costs for service and warranty insurance has been so much cheaper Thumbs Up

It's the € 3K for a 3 year "risk free" life supported by Jaguar Land Rover against 1K for the workshop -
I chose even a JLR contract workshop.

Next time it will be an Indie around the corner which is the cheaper and comfier solution Wink

Since Jaguar Land Rover leaves me in the rain nonetheless

3k€? Wow. My output shaft has just failed in Palma, quote to replace it and pop in a new clutch, 2000€ from a main dealer. As far as I'm aware the first major failure on my DC, certainly in the two years I've owned it. I suppose you could look at the most common failures and see how much they cost and the risk of them happening before deciding? Also, if/when it does happen you will not be obliged (as I have) to use LR parts. I wanted to upgrade to the Ashcroft kit and put in an ClutchFix HD clutch. I'm not under warranty but was in a LR dealership when the shaft failed. But warranty will cover you but also force you to use the original part with risk of failure. 3k€ could by a lot of the upgraded parts that fail, outside of wiring loom, gearbox etc. Maybe spend the money on preemptive changes instead. It's what I've been trying to do, just hadn't got into the transfer box yet!! Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

I suppose it's 2K for an extended warranty (3yrs) = € 666 p.a.
+ the annual service = € 450 p.a.

1K par year in total Cool

I made the the Ashcroft upgrade (for 1K). Let's wait and see.

I'm a sensitive driver and I cannot gain from extended warranty Neutral
