New boots
I run a 2.4 tdci 130 on Michelin xzl’s, usually getting around 20k miles on a set of tyres.
It’s time to replace them again and I’m considering my options.
I like the tall , narrow xzl’s so I could just replace with the same or I could go for Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs which I ran on my previous Td5 130.
What is the nearest size to 7.50 I can use on my tubeless wolf rims? I don’t want anything too wide.
It’s a working vehicle, towing everyday, often off road.

Cheers, Andrew

As stanstorey says, 235/85 is the factory equivalent of 7.50. Darren

20k is a very poor lifetime for a set of tyres on a Land Rover.

I would suggest BFGoodrich All Terrain in 235/85/R16 - good all rounder and I got 72k out of my last set so good value too. Or if you need to do lots of work in wet mud then the equivalent BFGoodrich Mud Terrain would work, at the cost of some economy and noise.

I would mirror the above, I'd rather pay a touch more on fuel than tyre's all the time.
I found with narrower MUDs the shoulders wear quite a bit too, with road use which we all would be using pretty much. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Have you missed the bit where the OP says he is running Michelin XZLs??? - they are not exactly road tyres... comparing them to, or suggesting as an alternative, BFG A/Ts is a bit like comparing rugby with football Whistle

As it happens I have a set of 235/85/16 XZLs for serious winter use off road & a set of 235/85/16 BFG A/Ts for the rest of the year so know a little bit about both tyres Wink

That said, I would agree that if you want good off road tyres that also behave on the road then BFG M/Ts would be a sensible consideration Thumbs Up

I think I will end up going for a set of Wrangler MT/Rs at £132 a corner inc vat + fitting.

I would love to get 72k from a set of tyres but I think it unlikely. The 130 is a heavy vehicle and we carry about 1/2t of kit in the back as well as towing up to 3.5 t daily, mostly A roads but often motorway and off road.
I am disappointed with the rate of wear of the xzl’s but have been pleased with them in other respects, as with most things it’s all about compromise 😊

I based my recommendations on what his stated use of the vehicle was, not on a presumption that the existing fitment was appropriate Rolling Eyes
