TD5 to 3.2 TDCI conversion
I have seen a few threads about a puma 2.2/2.4 to 3.2 conversion, and found the MT82 would need beefier bearings installed. Luck would have i where i found a 3.2 ranger and a MT82 gearbox for about 4000 pounds,

I know i would need an ecu calibrated,
-who is able to do that?

The gearbox would have to be upgraded
-Ashcroft?

Could i run the stock TD5 dash or would i have to swap to the Puma dash?

The clutch is also needed, as well as new engine mounts and even gearbox mounts.

What else am i missing?

I am trying to maximize my container shipment so i am not wasting time and money shipping parts across the oceans...

the main reason for upgrading a Puma engine to a 3.2 is it's still a Puma engine and will mate up to the existing mountings and gearbox. You'd probably need the Puma speedo, which pretty much means a whole puma dash.

If you want to upgrade a TD5 there are probably better options. Such as a Cummins lorry engine, which could be fitted for the same or less work. Or just sell your TD5 and buy a Puma Defender.

I thought that the Ranger was not the ideal engine for the conversion.

I believe that the only successful conversions where done with transit engines and gearboxes. Using a ecu from the transit.

Starting with a factory puma powered land rover.

M & D offer solutions for fitting different engines to the MT82 gearbox and also a 3.2 conversion. I believe they use a standalone ECU to run the engine.

Might be worth contacting them?

General consensus is it’s nice to say I’ve a 3.2 Tdci, but it’s not actually that great a conversion and expensive. Much better power plants out there.

Everyone keeps saying they're better conversions, but never say like...? Unless you go full on LS3? Cummins seem too heavy, so what is there? James

It’s doable it a cheap conversion if your brave Enuff to do it yourself 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs
3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P
hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit
ashcroft atb in transfer box
6 speed auto in build

Maybe so but inc buying the engine I didn’t pay over 5k for my hole conversion ? 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs
