Ctek Charger/conditioner - Not impressed
I've used a couple of Ctek mxs 5.0 chargers over recent years for vehicles that are not used as regularly as maybe they should. On attempting to start one of them yesterday all I got was a click from the starter solenoid. On checking the battery it was reading 12.6 volts with no load on it, as soon as I switched on the headlamps it was reading 5.5 volts indicating a duff battery.

My question is - the Ctek charger showed the battery was OK with all 8 lights on, indicating the battery was fully charged and on "maintenance charge" why did the Ctek charger/conditioner not detect a faulty battery? Can anyone explain the reason why?

Because a Ctek charger is not a battery tester.

The charger is working as intended. It only reports an error if the voltage after steps 1-4 drops to 12v. You clearly had more volts than this so no error reported.
It might be worth trying to recharge the battery in Recond mode before buying a new battery.

Leave the charger connected and momentarily switch the headlights on or the starter.
Check the charger report afterwards.

Put the charger in recon mode over night, it will bring your battery up to better than new! Then use the maintenance function Thumbs Up 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8
