Interesting why our American user has brought this subject up!
A very brief internet search would show that Tommy Robinson (whose real name is Stephen Lennon) was leader of an extreme right wing group in the UK. Has served time for a mortgage fraud, was sentenced to 3 months suspended for 18 months in May last year for contempt of court provided no more offences were committed. In the UK contempt of court is a serious offence! So already under a suspended sentence it is hardly surprising on another offence it was straight to prison. Now why should anyone live under a false name? Brendan |

It has always amazed me how easy it is to change your name and the low cost just £15.00 for a fancy Deed Poll certificate. In fact, legally you do not even have to purchase a Deed Poll certificate as you can just make up your own and get someone to witness it. Recently one of my friends partner wished to adopt the same surname as my friend as if they were married, she used an online service to obtain a Deed Poll filled it in used a friend to witness it, then took the document to the bank sent a copy of the Deed Poll to the DVLA and social security and all official documents were changed for her to my friends surname. I'll admit ignorance on this guy and his organization. I've heard him give interviews before and he didnt seem extreme to me but had concerns about immigration. The way Ive heard some people describe him, he sounded like a white nationalist which I did not gleam from his interviews. |

Question, why so many different names? One name change I can possibly understand but 3?? He has served 12 months imprisonment for assault on an off duty policeman He has served prison time for mortgage fraud. Served 6 months of an 18 month sentence Been convicted for common assault. Been convicted of entering the USA by travelling on someone else passport, sentenced to 10 months Been convicted of contempt of court. This 'gentleman' is not exactly whiter then white. Brendan |

Just to close this post out, justice prevails after three trials we now have 20 hateful individuals found guilty and quite a few of them locked up behind bar for a long time.
The actions of some individuals out site the court and online did not help, but fortunately UK law is robust enough to prevail. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45918845 Frustrating that BBC have decided not to list the names of all those found guilty, the court reporting restrictions have mostly been lifted. Unfortunately there are far far too many cases of this type, some have gone to court, some are still under investigation and no doubt there are a horrendous number not even being investigated. In our 'civilised' country in the 21st century it is a disgrace that these crimes can take place, those in the local communities who turn a blind eye, blame the victims or normalise this behaviour should take a long hard look at them selves. Tommy Robinson, despite what he may have you believe, is not some white knight of the British nation. He's a racist, a football hooligan, a common thief (mortgage fraud I believe) and generally a bit of a scumbag, like most of the EDL.
