Some (LT77) gearbox help please gentlemen
Some of you may have been following my Rebuild of Derek.

I was recently offered, thru a mate of a mate, an Ashcroft upgraded and refurbished LT77, and as ours was easily accessible due to the rebuild we jumped at it.

We took off the transfer box from the old GB and after changing all the seals and gaskets we bolted it to the new GB, with that in nuetral and the shaft spinning we connected it back to the engine.

Now the Censored is in gear and we can't get it out of gear, therefore we have lost our rolling chassis.

How could this have happened?

We are thinking/hoping it just all needs to be spinning to sort its self out. And we are getting close to a start up.

Can anyone throw any light on what's happened please?

Does it all need to come back out again or simply take off the gear selector for adjustment?

Due to a clutch issue, we had to separate the gearbox from the engine again today.

The gearbox shaft is definitely spinging freely, it must be the transfer box, but what/how?

We are going to leave the prop shafts off and start it up and see what happens.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

One of the bolts that join transfer box to gearbox can, if put in the wrong hole, actually jam the transfer box gears. Would be worth checking that.

Try switching the transfer box between low, high and in and out of diff lock too.
It maybe stuck in neutral.
After all, you can have the motor running in a gearbox gear but the transfer box in neutral and no drive.

Nothing to lose by trying it, but as you say with props off and somone to keep an eye out is easiest and safest.

All useful things to try - many thanks.

The handbrake thing did occur to me, but the drum is spinning.

I will update when we figure it out. 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.
