Insurance renewal time
OK so Insurance renewal time

Currently with Liverpool Victoria,

Protected no claims
All mods declared, Towbar, different wheels, interior, remap etc
Legal protection

£470 a year

Didn't think that bad...but though worth running through a comparison site...

All details in, searches... Best one Liverpool Victoria £328 ??

So I ring them, said is a huge difference, Over the phone they could get it to £380 but basically said I'm better cancelling my current policy and taking out again over internet. Which I did....How very odd

However £328 a year, The only good thing about getting older.... Thumbs Up

Curious, mine is a whopping £2160, but I’m still in my 20’s, No NCD(kept changing cars) and had an accident that is still unresolved 3 years on as its underwriter vs self, and I was insured through my employer. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

Worth looking at van/commercial policies if yours qualifies. I find it to be significantly cheaper than standard private policies...
Insurance is subjective I know but commercial policy was a third cheaper than A-Plan for me!

That's funny, mine ended up being much more expensive under a commercial policy.

For some reason insurerers didn't like a privately owned modified commercial vehicle that's occasionally used for business use.

I tried A plan in the past.

took ages and I remember being asked all random questions about where I drive and remember thinking why is this relevant only to get no where near another provider.

I've used LV ion the past when needed a claim and you only know how good insurance is when you need it... they were great.

I'm happy with just over £300 for the cover and mods included. My dads with NFU mutual for his cars and he's been impressed I will give them a go next year.

Thumbs Up

NFU are totally incompetent and out of touch with Land Rovers, especially if modified.

They were unable to correctly list common modifications (e.g. winch, tyres, additional lighting) on the policy we had. They were also very expensive.

My post was meant to suggest that A Plan were the cheapest next to the commercial policy - not a dig in the slightest. Purely personal experience. Like I say it’s subjective and will differ for each person

+1 for LV.

I had the Defender & two other cars on an Aviva multi car policy. They wanted over £900 earlier this month for renewal.

I thought I might do better insuring the Defender with specialists due to the BAS remap, winch and towbar.
Tried several, including Flux, Lancaster & A-Plan. Prices ranged from £550 to £350 for similar cover/excess.

After shopping around and putting the other two vehicles on an LV multicar policy taken out online , I then phoned LV to see what it would cost to add the Defender. I couldn't add it online because there was no drop down option to add the winch as a modification.

No problem, sir, the extra premium to add the Defender will be £216 for the year Smile. With all mods declared.

It proves the point that it it is worth the pain of shopping around and answering the same set of tedious questions over and over again to the different insurers/brokers.

^ Once I started modifying mine it soon became clear that most companies don't want to know.

I'm used to this and its common sense I guess if you run an insurance company? in my your days with big powerful cars and modifications it used to be Adrian Flux as they seem to know whats what..

I've been impressed with LV, each time I add a mod I tell them and it adds very little.

Some companies didn't want to know with wheel spacers.

I'm happy at least the low insurance offsets the tax for it Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear we weren't competitive - our questions are thorough to ensure your covered for what you need (and not what you don't need) as we are a broker we are here to make sure you're covered correctly Smile That being said a quotation shouldn't take ages to go through Neutral
Worth trying again though as policy schemes and criteria does change - especially from year to year Thumbs Up just make sure you call 01635 874646 for the 4x4 and modified branch here in Thatcham.

Also... make sure if you do have modifications and go to a 'standard' insurer you're covered for the mods themselves as some will cover a modified vehicle but will exclude the mods in a claim - a good question to ask when speaking to them Smile

Funny enough the the Lady at LV did say the quotes vary daily...I understand that.

They quoted £472 and on the Sunday I found it for £328 so I said looks like I'm better checking on a Sunday Rolling with laughter

Unfortunately it’s far worse on a commercial, as the quotes I received were worse if I threw in personal use, or wouldn’t cover personal use.

Personal with business use was the best I could have received. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

Mine is a 1988 110 with 200tdi conversion, galv chassis, whinch, lifted, lockers, etc. Easier to say which bits haven't been modified.

It's on a classic car policy (any car over 10 years old qualifies (or so they say)), covered for off roading (farm, shooting, etc not competition), covered for commercial used (private light goods, again farm and shooting related).

£280 per year. 5000 mile limit. 1988 110 200TDi Hard Top

Varies considerably depending on the person, modifications and use but I only pay £140 with A-Plan on my 1990 110SW. Might be worth a trying them next time.

Out of interest, I tried putting my Puma through as a commercial on the above van comparison sites and LV came out £100 cheaper than A-Plan including mods Shocked Watch out A-Plan I will be checking next year!! James
