Ok, AC fitted, just need to gas it.
Took me 2 full days, I'm just an enthusiast and not a mechanic.
The entire dash has to come out and by that I mean you strip it down to the bulkhead. It's a pretty big job. The instructions are very helpful but they do assume you are a professional mechanic. A single line of instructions can correspond to several pages of work in Rave.

Roll on the hot weather!

Good to hear Dan, well done. Still wondering whether I DIY fit or go garage? I will be stripping the Def shortly to add sound proofing, so maybe it wouldn't be as much of a job as you found it? Was it technical? And what's Rave? Is that a Typo or something I should consider using? Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Would a bigger intercooler help reduce engine heat so improve aircon performance? Confused

Probably not, as the condenser is forward of the intercooler.

I was wondering about this actually. Does AC actually make an Intercooler less effective as the fan partially covers it? Monsieur Le Grenadier

The condenser would generate heat as well as obstructing the airflow too, so yes theoretically it would, but chances are the difference is so minimal you wouldn't notice the difference. The engine load from the compressor probably makes a bigger difference.

^^^ You wouldn't believe how sensitive I am to changes in the Def. I notice every little nuance. I have the hands and skills of Lewis Hamilton. Honest. Whistle

So losely speaking, only use the AC when absolutely neccessary, such as steady M-way driving. Remainder of the time, for maximum omph, hoon around with the windows open. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Rave is Land Rover's internal repair manual. Freely available on the internet.
It's not what I would call a DIY job. If you are comfortable ripping out the entire dash down to the bulkhead then fine, just go ahead and do it yourself.

I'M happy ripping stuff out, it's the reassembly that worries me Shocked

Happy to tackle most labourious, manually difficult jobs and being France I have stacks of Bank Holidays coming up in May. Greatest fear would be more about wiring, is there much to it?

Tried to find a copy of the Rave, do you have a link or could you send me a PDF if I PM you my email address?

Ta Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

@eric, that's only half ways there. You need to get down to the heater box and remove that too.

Ah the wiring is very easy. If you have the 2.2 you have to run a cable to under the seat box but if you have the 2.4 you're singing.

Here's a linky to rave btw. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6kpm7zbfhxtmwqx/...e.pdf?dl=0

Dantastic, think I'm going to be taking the dash off today, the DC's been fully stripped back for sound proofing, speakers and general tidying of wires etc. Also need to repair the heater controls. Would this be a good moment to sort out these aspects of the aircon and can it be done in this order? If so, have you got a quick heads up as to what needs to be done at this stage in the cAbin and behind the dash, bar the obvious fitting the button and wiring it in? Monsieur Le Grenadier

If you have it all out then yea, ideal timing!

Not that much needs to be done bar stripping.
You need to take the heater box out and install the evaporator into the heater box. This is the biggest job.
You also need in install the relay holder by the under steering wheel fuse box but this is very simple.
Need to run a small bit of wiring loom but all this can be done with your eyes closed. Getting to and getting the heater box out is the tricky bit.

The only thing that wasn't immediately obvious to me was the temp sensor. You need to stick it in between the fins somewhere in the middle of the evaporator. Might be obvious but I was scratching my head for a few moments when it just said "fit like in the picture" and the pic corresponding to the number was missing from the instruction!

Dan, got to the point where everything is stripped, heater box 95% removed, but just one question. How/where did you clamp the in/out flow pipes to the box? And what type of clamp did you use? Can’t figure it out. Keen to do it today. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier
