Bit more progress - I appreciate this isn't the most riveting of threads Thud Laughing But it's helping me keep track of what i've done!

New shocks and shock mounts fitted - yes britpart - yes as much as i'd like some bilsteins, i need to be realistic!

Started rubbing down the paintwork as it'll need the rear of the bulkhead sprayed up before the tipper frame is bolted down.
Stuck a patch over the hole where the diesel heater inlet was to the cab from a previous life with a quadtech on the back.

Dumb irons wire brushed and rust treated..

EGR delete fitted intercooler flushed out with brake cleaner and radiator fins cleaned of gunk.
Cam seals bought but only fitted front as rear is fine - it was rocker gasket leaking previously, that has also been changed.

What state is the middle winch cradle bit like? or is that as rusty as the ends of the bumper?

If it's in OK condition, are you selling it? That could be handy for a future project of mine....

(I'm assuming it's a Husky 8000 bumper?)

Thanks for the replies - apologies if it looked like a plea for comments Mr. Green it's more a concern about the overload of dull pictures....hopefully they'll build up to some more interesting stuff when i try and paint it Whistle

I am debating colours at the moment:-
Was a clear cut Limestone over land rover light green to start with (like the 110), but am now thinking all limestone...but a friend has suggested I Sand Glow it, which i also quite like the sound of Rolling Eyes


The bumper from memory isn't too bad in the middle - i'll check when i am next there and take some pictures. It may well be good enough for a "tray" - be good to see it repurposed if possible!

Bit more work over last couple of days - will be it till next week i suspect...

Stripped off doors, screen (it cracked at a stone chip as expected!), vent flaps, bulkhead blocks and sill panels.

Anyone want to buy some doors....few dents and need some lower frame repairs. Complete with doorcards etc..

Shall section of old filler in passenger wing. Knocked out a shallow dent as best i could further back from filler and will skim it a couple of times to get it as flat as possible - I am far from a bodywork expert, but be nice to get it fairly smooth as the other side will be having a new panel

Will probably rub it back and stick a small skim on again to get it a bit flatter.. it's actually better than the photo shows Whistle

I hate chequer plate - but am stuck with it on the wings and bonnet, so will etch prime it with the bodywork and then mask it all up ready to go black once bodywork done.
A lot of elbow grease later with the wirebrush and it's nearly cleaned up. Proper thick utility style plate which is some consolation!

vert flaps and bulkhead blocks rubbed down and the newly painted door bottoms I picked up on ebay - seemed a shame to take a sander to them Laughing

New wing front marked up for drilling new rivet holes and then bonded and riveted. The inner brace thingy below the headlight bowl was bonded on and clamped overnight

And to finish the day off i managed to repair my compressor from home with some mower wheels i had in my hoarders section at the workshop.
Obviously it had to be a bigger wheel with a greater offset for some better ground clearance Whistle

I learnt the hard way there’s a big difference in quality of body fillers. Get yourself some Evercoat easysand for fine filling and for deeper dents rage/ultra gold from spraygunsdirect excellent stuff! Dry powder guide coat is also worth doing will help you pick up the imperfections.


A Top tip for the gutter sealant is to put a line of masking tape up each side, gives you a lovely straight line Thumbs Up

Yes, the gutter sealant job wasn't my finest moment, thankfully the other side was a bit neater Whistle

What sealant do you guys recomend for doing the gutter channels please? - I want to do mine over the summer. Also any tips on how to remove the existing sealant efficiently & cleanly would be very helpful too.

Couldn’t see the pictures?!



In my eyes you can’t fix the sealant without painting the roof. You need something flexible, uv protection and overpaintable. I use a 3M product, you need a special application gun and cartridges for it which you have to buy in bulk too Sad it wouldn’t be economical for the one DIY job.


Contact Chris at spraygunsdirect and ask him what he’d recommend? there’s so many different products out there. The only thing I’ll say is make sure you follow the TDS (technical data sheet) that will be available for it. It’ll tell you the preparation, cleaning, application and drying times for it Thumbs Up
