2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Keswick Green

Electrical connector advice please

I'm installing an accessory socket in the rear of my 2012 110. There's a great thread on the forum which identifies the the positive feed cable - a purple one which, in my MY terminates in a chunky connector pictured below...

The purple wire enters this connector and finishes there. The other half of the plug doesn't have a contact to receive it. So i need to splice into this feed. The wire cannot be extracted from the multiplug connector so I'm guessing my choices are:

1. Cut it, leaving a tail on the connector end taped up for for future use.
2. Leave it connected and use a scotch lock connector. I haven't had the best results with these in the past though.

Anyone have any suggestions? 2012 USW Keswick Green 110

Strip insulation off and solder a wire onto that feed. No need to cut the wire just take the insulation off wrap the other around it and a dab of solder.

Isn't that a photo of the trailer harness connector in the wheel arch? There is a permanent live in it for caravan use, I'm guessing you only have single electrics on yours so it's not used.

Behind the speaker panel inside the back of your car you should have a connector. On my 2010 USW it had a dual female spade connector.

That was removed around 2012/2013 vintage. So this one may not have it.

I did think of that but wasn't sure if this was the accepted method. Happy to get the soldering iron out thought - thanks for the advice. 2012 USW Keswick Green 110

Yes - if only it was still there in my 2012.

Well spotted ZSD - that is the two electrics connector where the live feed terminates - so my task is to splice into it at that point and then feed a wire up into the area behind the tail lights. 2012 USW Keswick Green 110

I think PaulMc does a terminal for these connectors, so you could fit a wire into the empty position on the mating connector to create your feed.

In that case then If you can't get a specific terminal as Martin has suggested (that would be my preferred method). Then I would cut it and use a duraseal butt connector.

You use them like ordinary crimp connectors but heat them up afterwards, this then shrinks and glues them to the wire making it very strong and totally water proof. Given it's location I wouldn't just solder and tape it, it needs to be more waterproof than that.
