Thumbs Up I'm afraid it's just one of those things where you just choose your option.
Either on or off, and ultimately you can reverse it which is rare as some mods it's a one way street so to speak.

I think of it like the white tyre letter in or out debate, there will never ever be an 'answer' but only personal preferences.
My reasoning for going for it was purely due to the maintenance issues and costs, as well as the engine gas recycling concern.
I didn't want it blanked specifically fir performance, that's just an inherent bonus.

If it wasn't for that I'd have kept it, I wouldn't deliberately want any increase in NoX for the sake of it but the damned things are such a pain.
And there is no kidding there is an MPG gain, and all of that un-burnt fuel being saved must be a good thing!
The only thing is, practically none of us have scientific testing equipment but tuners do.

As far as I am aware, there is little difference but possibly a very small increase in NoX and I'm assuming that's running identical fuel type though.

Jist is, there is no concrete answers. Thumbs Up

I am as far as I'm concerned I'm not running a dirtier vehicle than before, if anything smoother and more efficient. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Removing any part designed to limit pollution is morally and in many cases legally wrong.

Sadly there are far too many in this country who believe that our laws don't apply to them.

However it's not just individuals. Companies are selling illegal tuning products to customers either without informing them of their legality or as 'for offroad' with a nudge and a wink.

I can see this ending soon though. Most likely an insurance assessor looking for a way out of paying for a claim. The drivers claim gets backed so they try to sue the tuning company... "Read the smallprint, 'offroad only'.."

Many of us Defender owners actually put a lot into the environment by nature, far off-setting the carbon footprint with tree planting and various other incentives and areas covered.

That's interesting Steve, do you have any details ? Is it a forum deal for replanting ?
Mo

The first 40k LR had a CO2 offset initiative covered in purchase price, I believe this went towards various projects involved with CO2 off setting with tree planting initiatives etc.
Also a lot of Wildlife trusts use Defenders which of course helps the causes with the natural environment, inc Enviroment Agency etc

It is also indeed true that Defenders have typically at lease double the lifespan of many disposable cars.
So you are talking various metals production inc CO2 produced in mining in particular for mining precious metals
The best recycling method imho is longest lifespan, and to not buy to replace.

This debate could go one forever. Laughing

So far, i have planted around 1800 trees this year.

Would that make it ok for me to dump a couple of tons of asbestos on your front lawn?

Suggest you go dump it anywhere you want in Ukraine. That's what they do there, and matter of fact until today they still produce and use those miserable corrugated asbestos roofing plates there. Rolling Eyes

England 2005 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Java Black
I am a trained HGV mechanic and now work for a oil company inspecting engines for oil performance. personally I have removed EGR from my Td5, EGR is used as a inert material that cannot be burnt thus reducing the amount of oxygen in the cylinder, reducing cylinder temps. It is only used during certain engine conditions and won’t occur with a cold engine or at full throttle.
It reduces cylinder temps to reduce the amount of Nox being produced by the combustion process. It is a dirty way of reducing emissions as it can block EGR valves/coolers and also the inlet manifold and ports.
Carbon which is the black stuff has a diamond like composition and can build up causing premature engine wear through worn rings and bore polish etc.

On a Td5 you can get a performance benefit due to the restriction missing from the manifold but on all engines wear is less likely to occur
Kind Regards

Think you should by a fully electric Land Rover. Cool Ticks many of your boxes, torque, cleanliness, noise, reliability... Whistle
No need to blank anything with those. Laughing
