Looking at getting a Freelander2, what do we think?
As tittle suggests, I am considering a late, low mileage Freelander2 as a daily keeper.

Is this a mad idea? What should I be concerned about/looking for?

Does anyone have one/know of one for sale?

Many thanks as always.

Two of my friends have them and swear by them (one of my friends is on his 2nd)

They share lots of mechanical parts with another top-seller the Evoque (so no worries there - millions of them out there).

The Haldex is known to be a weak spot, but as far as I can tell it only became a problem on a small number of vehicles (maybe manufactures around 2011/2012?)

Suggest looking the sister site http://www.freel2.com/forum/

BTW - both my mates are hanging onto theirs long-term as they prefer the FL2 to the new Disco Sport... Looking at Freel2, they seem to get snapped-up quick - maybe a sign they're a great car in good demand Thumbs Up

Later ones (I think they have "square" fog light surrounds IIRC) have much better MPG my mates tell me...

I would also suggest a glance at a Volvo XC60 and XC70... the D5 engine is a peach Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I had a Freelander 2 sport LE SD4 same as pictured and miss it a lot. Just a shame they don’t make them anymore! Just a tip if you end up with one don’t get a TD4 the SD4 is the one to have and auto is a must for the Freelander Thumbs Up

Had 3 fl2's, never gave any trouble. Probably the most reliable of modern land rovers. HSE spec is lovely.

I suppose it depends what you’re looking for- I’ve plenty of time behind the wheel of the FL2 and personally I find them mind numbingly dull to drive. If you’re used to and enjoy steering the defender the FL2 will feel like playing PlayStation; no character or feedback to the way they drive.
That said, if you are looking to crunch lots of miles, sit in a comfy seat and not worry about it- then it could be spot on. 👍 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2
