Canada 2000 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Epsom Green
Be good to check all the hoses along the intake. There is a flex hose behind the engine just under the fuel pressure regulator. When the FPR leaks (as thry all will) it diissolves the rubber nad causes a big air leak and water ingress issues into the air cleaner box. I was under the impression the plastic jobby RAI had a habit of sucking in spray while driving on motorways etc

Is that through the actual air intake or via the wing seal? This is where the 300 we had was sealed by its previous owner.

If you have the air intake pointing forwards, yes, it will get water in it and for whatever reason the TD5 air filter seems particularly prone to issues with the air filter getting damp. Pointing the air intake backwards will help reduce water intake, especially from spray on motorways etc... http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

I have both the problems mentioned, in the wet it hicups unless the safari style head is reversed, and I alos suffer with the damp right foot at times too! 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

In a twist, had problem again today. Again about 55/60 mph drove 30 miles no issues parked up for 4 hours set off again, temp guage up to normal and again it stuttered. Driven it since without issue. Nice sunny day (could be not used to warming sunny weather Laughing )
Checked air filter and it’s still dry.

Check maf sensor plug and intake sensor plugs spray some wd40 or olivine grease aroudn connectors and try that

Also check intercooler hose to intake manifold is tight with no leaks

Also check ecu is not getting damp under driver seat box plug the drain holes in each corner

I’ve seen all the above happen and cause the symptoms 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Check ecu red plug for oil, if there's oil there you'll need to change the injector loom. You could also try unplugging the maf and driving about for a bit, if there's more power with it unplugged you need a new one. Ray

Sounding more like a wiring issue now. Check engine loom for rubs and frays, especially where the loom wraps around the engine and over the bell housing.

Frayed wiring shorting on the engine or on other wiring could cause intermittent running issues.

I forgot to mention. I had a issue with the connection in the tx box on mine that caused the throttle to change from high to low range throttle map and back again when wet or damp. It used to cause hiccups as it switched 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

tried unplugging MAF and it does appear to have more power, run better and even sound a bit better. Other bits and red plug seem okay.
Is a genuine part worth the extra or not does anyone know?.

Clean the MAF by blowing brake cleaner through, don’t touch the sensor and let it thoroughly evaporate and dry.

Took MAF off and it looks very clean, including the sensor inside.....or is it.
Should it look dirty or am I missing something?
Do I just spray the sensor anyway?
Sorry but I want to go cautiously........I have some brake cleaner handy though!

If you go on the bas tuning site it shows you how to check if the maf is working with a multimeter. If I get power back when mines unplugged I just swap it out for a new vdo one. Ray
