O ring failure at the base of rotor filter to oil cooler
Hi. From Malta

2003 td5 crewcab. rebored engine roughly 2 years ago by PO. Oil used Texaco synthetic 5w30 replaced July 2017
oil pressure idle readings cold starts 20 to 40psi, driving at running temps 20 to 30 psi, idle hot 1 - 5psi

been with me since march 2017
Sat for 5 months for refurbishing rear tub and chassis.
used almost daily since December 2017.

early Feb 2017 O ring started leaking replaced with a similar one
started leaking after a week replaced with an oversize item that filled the grove snuggly (4mm thickness)
IT started leaking again now. Sad it leaves about 2cmx2cm puddle overnight.

It is a fiddly job. Am i doing something wrong? Or it needs thicker oil 5w40 or 10w40? I assume it is nearing an oil change too. past 4 months of use.

I know it is a land rover ... so no need to have a go at that Very Happy

The threads in the casting can wear some owners drill through and fit nut and bolt Thumbs Up

I will check he bolts' tightness.

Do you mean the housing can go loose?
i had a look again seems like the area of the oil filter housing is covered with a thin film of oil.
That gasket was also replaced in February.

Could it be that the oil is wearing thin/is thin for our climate here?

morning /starting temperatures are anywhere between 12'C and 15'C at the moment, going up to 19'C and 20'C in summer it will be higher of course

hm i am not sure if i made myself clear. the leak is not from the lid of the rotor filter housing but from the bottom part. see pic for reference. i am sure it is leaking from there - circled in red. as every time i replaced it it stopped . with the 4 mm ring it stayed dry for 2 months... and ring was soaked with oil before installation. is that gallery subjected to high pressure?
