But did you pay extra for NCD protection? http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic61691.html?highlight=ncd

I'd be interested to hear A-Plan comment on this as I have just paid extra! James

Got both my Defender and Disco Sport insured through A-Plan. Very competitive on price and didn't charge extra for mods. I always speak to the Thatcham office and get excellent service every time. That's praise from me 'cos I hate insurance companies with a vengeance. Defender 90XS SW

JOW240725 - No Claims Bonus Protection
Most insurers will charge extra for this.

The difference between protected and unprotected is that yes, the benefit will not protect the overall price of your insurance policy and therefore the price of your insurance policy may increase following an accident, what it does protect is the discount applied.

So for example lets say the base premium for your insurance before an accident is £1000, and the 9 years NCB gives you a 50% Discount, your insurance cost is £500.
Then you have an accident and the base premium goes to £1500, if your NCB is protected then your discount will still be 9 years at 50% making insurance cost £750. If its not protected then your discount is likely to drop to 4 or 5 years (at best) which carries a lower discount of for example 25%, new insurance cost after claim would be £1125.
Yes your policy is likely to still increase following a claim, but the increase would be lower if protected NCB as you are not losing some of your discount as well as having an increase in the base premium.

These figures are purely an example and different insurers have different discount percentages for different NCB amounts, different rulings in how many claims protected NCB will allow for and different rulings in how many NCB years you lose in the event of a claim if your no claims in unprotected. I used this solely as an example to explain how NCB works.

I hope this helps!
