Handbrake Cable
Looking for some advise on replacing the handbrake cable on a 2004 TD5; is it something that can be done easily enough DIY?

The garage I usually use is booked up for the next 4 weeks and my wife is wanting it fixed sooner Laughing

I'm OK with spanners, had to learn quick owning a Discovery 1

Any links, tips or advise would be great

Thanks

Ade

Hi

This is a topic that I have been saving in my watched threads, as I will have to do mine. So, I have copied and pasted someone else's text below (I'm not skilled enough to put a link) Hope this helps.

Mike

Mine snapped a couple or 3 months ago, (TD5 CSW) yes you do need to remove the prop, which is helped massively by having the right tool which is about a tenner online. getting the retaining clips back on the handbrake shoe retaining springs is a PITA, again I think there's a tool for it but I only had pliers etc. apart from that pretty straight forward.

Propshaft bolt removal tool helps ( you may have slim sockets but I struggled to get mine on )

Running into problems trying to change the cable today

Bought a tool to remove the prop shaft but it doesn’t cover the nuts?

I also can’t get a spanner on enough to remove

Anyone advise?

Thanks

I use a 9/16" AF Snap On flex socket for propshaft fastenings, it works far better than the supposed special tools.

I can't link to the specific socket since thd Snap On site is down for maintenance at the moment.
