2.4 sump oil leak
My 90 over the last few months has developed a leaky sump, nothing much but enough to need to repaired.
Luckily it's not a heavy leak.

I'm pretty sure the sump it's self is fine but the seal is going.

Can anyone confirm if it's a gasket type seal or a wet assembly style sealant?

I'm tending to think the latter.

I've also got a PAS leak on the steering box, guessing that's going to be pretty expensive. Sad Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Jup is expensive Big Cry

I've replaced it before with a LR one. Next time i'am going for another steering box.

Does anybody knows how the bowler (close ratio) steering box holds up? Perhaps an idea for you too? a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

I once let the dealer replace my sump after the tip of my oil gauge broke off and fell into the sump and just sat there. The old sump itself was perfect, no leak at all, but dealer said to never take off an even perfectly good sump and then put it back just with new sealant. It surely will leak then as the sump metal just will have deformed. So a new sump with new sealant was installed, leakfree to date.

They are bonded in the same way that the timing cover is fixed,
Timing covers are very tricky to remove without bending,
I always replace them with a new one.

The sumps have a bit more strength to them, as they are not just a flat panel, and do come off if you run a blade around them, as long as the seal breaks evenly, you will be fine.
Replace with a gasket as above or RTV sealer, just give the sump a good clean off to make sure it is still oil tight, and not porous. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I seem to remember the early Puma sumps were replaced on a recall due to the propshaft coming into contact with them on full articulation. I didn't bother with my 07 SW as it never went seriously off road.

Thank-you all.

I was wondering regarding the seal type as suggested and I did wonder about the sump deformity due to being removed and re-fitted.
So new sump it is.

I assume the 2.4 Transit sump fits, or is the sump specific to the Defender with the prop articulation issue? Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Correct. My sump was replaced for this reason.

No, the Defender sump is different due to the room necessary for the front shaft joint.

No paper seal, only the silicon style sealer and, yes, you need a new sump for the deformation due to being removed and re-fitted Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Looking at getting this today, can anyone confirm the part number as being the up to date version?

The Genuine P/N I have is: LR007598

Obviously doesn't include the other parts except the sump pan it's self.

Just checked my invoices. My sump was replaced half a year ago when dealer had to retrieve the broken off oil gauge tip from the sump. The genuine sump part number still is LR007598. In addition the invoice gives the number for the genuine bonding paste they used for the new sump. That is STC50550.
