TD5 T/C Off Switch?
Looking for a way to build a T/C off switch for my 110 so I can disable it as and when its required. I know Pace4x4 make one but it's not cheap so If I could make my own I would like to!

I am aware turning off the T/C also turns off the ABS.

First idea is a simple one, remove the live off the back of the fuse in dash fuse box and extend it up into a switch, back down and reconnect it. Flicking the switch effectively acts like pulling the fuse.

Now can I do this while the engine is one/driving? Or would that cause issues? Secondly can I turn it back on with the engine running? Or would I have to turn engine off, TC switch on, engine back on.

Any other ideas? I know the Pace 4x4 version uses a relay but not sure what for!

Thanks Smile

In a separate post in the TD5 sub forum, dorsetsmith posted a handy guide to ABS & TC issues, including the info that operating the brake pedal 10 times within 10 seconds with ignition on will disable TC. To re-enable, turn off ignition and then on again apparently.

Correct, as above. Whilst stationary depress brake pedal, coming off completely each time, ten times in ten seconds. Cheers

Yes but I believe it also starts working again if you go above a certain speed.
I cannot check that as I don't have abs on my td5. Roel

I just had a look at the Td5 schematics and I see there is a direct connection from the handbrake and low fluid level switches to an input on the ABS module. This leads me to wonder if the ABS is disabled by the operation of the handbrake (and/or low fluid,) it would make sense.

It would be easy enough to check if this is the case by simply pulling the brake lever up one notch, enough to put the warning light on, then drive across a muddy field. If it works you can always add a switch in parallel with the lever switch, this would of course bring the warning light on but that's maybe no bad thing as a reminder.

Very interested in this as was planning something similar (just off the fuse) that I could use to disable TC and ABS in sand...

If there is any more sensible solution be very interested to hear them Thumbs Up 2003 Zambezi Silver TD5 110 XS SW overland prepped....

Referring to my previous post above, I got the chance to check this out this morning in the snow, driving down the snow-covered steepish hill from my house I dabbed the brakes and the ABS responded immediately, pulled the handbrake lever up one notch, (to put the light on,) and straight away - no ABS action at all, drop the lever down again and the ABS action was restored straight away.

A lot quicker and more positive, (by way of visual indication,) than dabbing the pedal ten times Thumbs Up

Genius! Thumbs Up

I shall be nabbing that.... do we know whether the handbrake switch is a push to make or push to break? But either way I’m sure I could find a local high for the other side of a switch down by the handbrake if needs be. 2003 Zambezi Silver TD5 110 XS SW overland prepped....

The HB switch is a simple connection to body earth when the lever is lifted, much like a door pin-switch, tap into the white/yellow wire under the seat box and wire it through a conveniently placed switch to ground and away you go Thumbs Up

Did you read the OP?

Plus if the handbrake method works then you can turn TC off at any point rather than having the cycle the engine as you do with the Pace kit.
