Our car turned out to be too small for children, so they went and we kept the car !!

Just put forward facing rear seats in it
 I wasn't going to sell my baby  My daughter and her friends think its the coolest thing ever. and are not worried about side windows, which is good as thats not going to happen |

To be honest, a 90 is very difficult with small children. You can't use a child car seat on sideways facing rear seats. If you fit forward facing seats, they're a pain to actually put a child into a car seat on one of them. The alternative is that your wife/partner sits in the back for the next ten years. All assuming that you only have one child!

A Puma is not good for seating small children. Some car seats will not fit safely and getting the youngster in is a nightmare, as Landrover anorak says. However the children love the high seating position and will only travel in the Puma when given a choice.
I'm a bit with Swine and Small, although getting rid of the children is a bit extreme - they keep coming back and eventually bring their small children with them.
Best option is to keep the TD5 and get a eurobox. Best of both worlds. |

or keep the TD5 and get a station wagon as well. 110's are fine for space - we camped for 3 weeks with 3 kids and 3 dogs (one an Irish Wolfhound) using the rear space and roof rack.
Or if you have lots of shorter journeys, get a eurobox MPV (S-Max is good) or estate (baby stuff takes up far more space than you can possibly imagine). |

Defender 110 TD5?
Much cheaper than a Puma, arguably better, and cheaper to tax as long as you go for a pre March 2006 one. There are a few nice ones on Ebay at the moment. |

Kids & normal stuff you take with you on a day out, scooters, bikes, helmets etc = 110
Including the camping gear easy a 110 or 130.
2 door cars and kids (especially very small in baby seats = pain) I had Mercedes ML's and E class estates previous with kids and even with roof boxes they are full to the brim !! The 110 swallows stuff it ace, kids love it

I've had a 90 HT with side windows with forward facing seats with 2 smalls (2 and 4 years old) and with decent car seats that worked quite nicely if you don't mind filthy trousers from the rear crossmember every time you load them up.
110 SW (200 tdi) & V8 UW were easier to load kids into but the standard seats aren't much cop at all. Short backs, poor anchors/latches and no headrests. 110 SW PUMA is about the best I have used and own, now use with 18 month old daughter on a daily basis. Seats are very strong and well anchored and each of the 3 has a 3 point seat belt.You can  about all you want with a 90 or 110 HT but it will never be as convenient as a SW or DC.
My suggestion would be to switch to a 110 TD5 SW and convert the rear seats to the PUMA type - I believe there are a couple of guys on this board that have done this (CDN 38 for one). You then get the best of all worlds by keeping all of your TD5 extras and with the benefit of the latest rear seats. I also wanted a 130 but for practicality (parking in particular) decided for the 110 instead. Also bear in mind that with a roof rack and dog guard you can fit an awful lot in/on a 110 - we fitted enough to live and work abroad for the 3 of us for 3 months in ours: Click image to enlarge |
