nice boxes on the back of the roof rack: what are they?

Zarges 40859 K470 Aluminium Case 550 x 550 x 380 mm.
They're not the cheapest but they're waterproof, strong and quite simple to secure. I paid £90 each shipped to Italy, slightly 2nd hand. When we're not moving country they're used for carrying camping equipment and double up as camp chairs. They're probably a bit tall for the roof but were about the same height as the roof boxes, so I though they would be OK up there, and so it proved. I made sure that they only held low value and lightweight items. |

Eeeermm - it is a 110.....
Also what you cannot see is that it is equipped with a full internal/external roll cage onto which the front of the rack bears directly, and the roof is supported at the B posts by another hoop. Also the boxes contained all of the specifically selected lightweight items that we were carrying on that journey. That evening we had a 6 hour journey to Cortina and across the Dolomites and onwards to Brennero (Brenner pass) and although you could feel the extra inertia, by not driving like a dick it was absolutely fine. |

Wow - I left this unchecked for a couple of days. Thanks so much for all the input ! My solution is to look for a 110 or 130 double cab Td5. Keep the 110 Van as it owes me nothing. Swap over all the good bits of the 110 van (Alive int and turbo, dash, battery system rack, wheel carrier, sound system etc....) . Go over the new vehicle with a fine tooth comb and protect for the future with touch ups as and where needed. I will keep the sankey I have and fit wheels to match so the spares are interchangeable. Eventually I will see the van or keep if I can insure for not much cash. I will still have the 80 inch and a nice Td5 for daily use. I really want the 130 but they are really hard to find with aircon etc.
Any 130 owners want to share some pics? Also I would love to see your camping setups. I have camped every summer with my wife since we were 17 out of a car. We often end up in remote places and tend to go for high mountain tents for bomb proof weather resistance over comfort; however we have recently been toying with the idea of a robens tent for longer stays in one place. we also have a really reiable Freelander 2 auto which can be used for carrying children if needed. |
