Which Series 2 Headlamps?
Hi there,
I have a series 2 headlamp panel (as below) but missing the lights (pic off google), and am trying to get my head around which type of lamps can be fitted.
I've seen some series 2's with flush headlamps, and some which protrude with a chrome ring.
Which type do I fit to this panel? Assume flush as per pic.
Or can either type be fitted?
And depending on the answers, know where I can purchase the correct kit from?
Thanks in advance.

If exactly as the one in the picture It is a Series IIA panel. There are Chrome rings around the headlamps but they are mounted behind the break fast. The three screws on the panel are the securing and adjusting screws. They have a spring behind them to adjust the lamp.
The Series II used a headlamp mounted in front of the break fast with an additional chrome ring finisher. This was I think a common Lucas set up on many cars of the sixties.

Early one has more parts but has more shiny chrome. It is easier to fit old style beam converters to them.
The later IIA ones are a bit easier to set up.
On the headlamps themselves don't use the original feeble sealed beam units. Get Wipac or similar halogen bulb conversion units. Light onto the road is quite poor as headlights are in centre of car and wings shield a lot of the light.

There are also FV military headlamps which are much more expensive and even worse for light performance as fitted to my Lightweight and others. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Fantastic reply, thanks!
Yeah mine is identical to the one in the picture, with the three small holes around the recess.
Would this be the right kit to fit?

There is a small chrome surround that may just show around the headlamp?

The plastic ones should fit. I have not used them on a IIA so am not clear on the adjustment.

These

Seem to include all the springs and screws I would expect and the tails for connecting into the loom. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

The changeover was actually on the IIA after a year or so of production. Series IIA chassis suffix A kept the bulging type headlamps. Suffix B and onwards had the flatter type, which are also mounted slightly lower on the panel. 2011 110 USW
