Hello,
I have one of the Flat dog Rax with luggage rail. We regularly use it for transporting kayaks and bikes etc as the grooves in the slats allow you to mount various accessories and eye bolts and then quickly take them back out when you're finished. Its pretty similar to the Thule T-track system. It's aluminium and relatively lightweight (took 3 of us to lift and fit on my 110. Happy shopping. Keith |

I have a Hannibal and very happy with it. It's lightweight but seems strong being a one piece construction and without the side rails it's low profile so I can still fit into car parks. Like the offerings from Flatdog, Front Runner etc it has slots in the horizontal bars and the outer edge to allow accessories and tie down eyes to be fitted / moved. The full-length mounts spread the weight along the length of the gutter rather than concentrating pressure on small feet like some types.

Looking for the BEST roof rack for your 110?
That is a very subjective question as people tend to recommend what they have. If you want the best then I would suggest you have a good look at the Cargo bear roof rack system by Nakatanenga. A truly modular aluminium roof rack system. Can start with a couple of roof bars and build it up to a 90, 110 or 130 roof rack. Can even get it to follow the slope at the front of the Defender roof. Standard tread plates or high grip tread plates. At just 60 mm above the roofline probably the lowest one. Not the cheapest roof rack but probably the best. Yes have used a Brownchurch style roof extending over bonnet, a Patriot rack, Rhino bars in the past. Brendan |

Another vote for hannibal racks, I’ve had a mk1 and mk2. Mk2 came with an integrated picnic table the only reason I changed.
If I were to buy again, I’d get a flat dog simply because the slate are left/right rather than front/rear and make fitting a hard shell tent much easier |

Other things to worry about - many car parks have height restrictors, so you may want to be able to easily remove for day to day use. I just have roof bars, I can fit and remove on my own.
If you have bikes on the roof, height restrictors are an even bigger problem. If I wanted to take a bike, I'd stick it on the spare wheel or in the back. Building materials on the roof? Unless you're popeye or just thinking about timber/pipes, I'd think of a trailer instead. One point above I strongly agree with - get somthing modular. |

The Nakatanenga Cargo Bear is only 60 mm above the roof line so is one of the lowest roof rack going. The only lower one I am aware of is the roof rack from Arbenteuer 4x4.
Putting roof tents on and off unless you have some form of hoist/forklift can be awkward. Either access to nuts is restricted meaning take roof rack off or plenty of access which means high roof rack which has its disadvantages. Nakatanenga do a roof tent mounting system which allows access so that the roof tent can be lifted off without removing a relatively low roof rack. Brendan |

Haven't seen the Nakatanenga rack in the flesh, but I'll bet it's amazing.
I have the Hannibal, and have been very happy with it. I'm a fan of the mounting set up as it travels the length of the gutter, not just where the feet come to the gutter. Low profile, not really any noticeable wind noise (well, I have no center box on the exhaust  ). I do agree with a previous post though, the powder coating isn't the best I have seen, but it's better than most.

Roof bars are easy to fit/remove and store if needed, also a lot cheaper - but looks department they are left lacking. Personally I was disappointed when looking at a Cargo Bear few weeks ago when out with fellow land rovers, to see they had to fit standard roof bars to the Cargo Bear to be able to use standard fit items like a roof box
 I'd stick to a rack or bars allowing T Track items to be used. |
