My Double din install has started (no radio yet...)
OK so having had the double din kit for around 2 years decided I should actually have a go at fitting Smile

Firstly I'm glad I bought a cheap single din take off dash part when I did as cutting the dashboard and cutting the heater matrix stuff off was a bit Shocked Shocked

So before hand survey the parts

Clipping the heater surround off was fun (not) very delicate and I found removing the black glued tabs that hold it in place the best. Just plod away slowly to make sure you don't mark the bits you see on other side.

Done Thumbs Up

Then masked off the single din dashboard and started to cut using a stanley blade, slowly going over and over the same score line.

Have to say would not be happy doing my current surround, as a one shot deal so I was lucky to have the spare. It all is fine in the end but means I can get this ready without having my dash in bits.

Next I have to find a headunit Thumbs Up

I'm also looking at what would go in this gap its approx 50mm 51mm and it does come with a blank so I don't have to put anything?

Will I have to cut the wires to extend switches? Big Cry hope not.....

^ It's not TOO bad, just take your time doing it,

I did think about a single din but when your using them they hide the buttons and the double din imho looks more up to date?

Thumbs Up

Unfortunately you have to extend at least 1 switch. The left top one.

In the round hole i put the Check tempIII

I cut the circle off mine. Shaped the edge to match and then painted it. 👍

I didn't have to extend of any my looms, but it is tight. Don't forget to trim the corner on the clock.

I've got nothing in the circular hole (yet).

Roy, Did you change the leds in the switches or did you find some other way of changing the colour? I’ve been wanting to change mine to red to match the rest of my dials and back lights, but as always never got got round to doing anything about it yet.

I had to extend three switch’s, don’t forget you have to remove the metal bracket in the dash and push the plastic heating duct back a little if your using a pioneer head unit. And take loads of photos so you know where things are

Yeah I bought some 3mm leds worth resistors to make them work with 12V. Then detached the original green LEDs and soldered in the blue ones. Not much room in som of the switches so some internal plastic had to be removed. But I’m happy with them and they look lovely. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

Roy,

Where did you get your Dials and LED computer set up? DIY or from one of the usual suspects? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Dials?! The blue circles? If so then they’re just the originals painted blue.

The little computer is an ultra gauge unit built into the binnacle. Again DIY 👍 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html
