300 or HS 2.8
Hi all
Many thanks to all those who replied to my Q in the V8 section Bow down

With all the replies from the V8 thread that i have had, i've come to a conclusion a V8 for me for every day use, will not work Sad so it will have to be a diesel and the 2 that i have narrowed it down to are ..........................

A. 300 Tdi recon

B. HS 2.8

C. Your recommendation

With the 300 i have thought of a full Turner engine with the Hybrid turbo.

with the HS 2.8 a brand new one with a hybrid turbo as well.

I have gone with these 2 as i don't want any ecu's and not have to alter the chassis in any way Very Happy

Many thanks for reading this and your thoughts Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

I know that the HS has a lot more torque as standard Wink

As for my insurance on millie, it doesn't matter what engine i put under the bonnet as she is classed as a commercial Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

The only ever bad thing I have heard about the HS is the cost this was a few years ago,so if can make the figures right it's got to be the one .

The cost of a new one is quite higher than the Turner engine, but all i want is an engine that wont let me down as iv'e been spoilt with the engine in millie so far Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

I am running a Turners 300tdi with their performance head, Allisport intercooler, BAS turbo and fully tuned it to get the most out of the set up.

It is great with plenty of power and torque, although I have never had it on a dyno so can’t give any figures.

I have been running this set up for over 60,000 miles and 4 years now with no issues in terms of reliability.

I run a Tgv 2.8hs. Ran two until last year, sold one. Love it, gives same torque in std as most tuned 300s the the Tgv with intercooler and it will go well. Don't skimp on the cooling though. Cheers

I'd go TGV Mr. Green

It's a shame Cummins aren't bringing the R2.8 in yet, I emailed Cummins UK before Xmas, but no response.

As the OP wanted an engine with no ECU's then the Cummins R2.8 is right out... It's simple but not free of electronic control.

Aren't HS 2.8's a bit hard to find already? M&D Engineering don't list them on their website anymore.

What's the real difference between a 2.8 international and a 300Tdi bored to 2.8 with a variable geometry turbo anyway? Same displacement, same turbo tech, is there anything to truly gain compared to a 300Tdi where you still retain most parts commonality etc?

The 2.8 was dropped in the RWMIK coupled to an auto box, for the weight of the vehicle it shifts it very well Thumbs Up 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
