OLED Display to replace the Clock
Has anyone thought about taking the Clock out and replacing it with a Round OLED and driving it with an Arduino?

I have but was going to replace the warning light panel and have it display all "non essential" warning lights which would override anything that had been selected to be displayed.

Oil and battery lights would have dedicated LEDs integrated into a replacment panel to avoid any problems if the Arduino were to throw a wobbly Thumbs Up

There are some nice OLED panes avaiable on the internet but I havent got around to anything yet. It could display all sorts of cool stuff. if you were going to do a round screen (square covered by the dash panel) then you could even do a clock as a screen (with sweeping Rolex style second hand Laughing ) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I see that you can buy round OLED so a 52mm/2" should be doable. I was thinking of clock, rev and battery voltage.

If it works its tempting to swap out the fuel and temp gauges.

Then there is the speedo.

To be honest if you are going that far then a RaspberryPi and TFT display would be the way forwards Thumbs Up

Arduino would be the better option as there is less of an OS to load up. Pi is good for a carputer but not so good at doing simple tasks easily. The OLED is nice as they don't use as much power as a TFT.

True, I suppose it also depends on how graphically pleasing you want it to be.

Arduino can only handle pretty basic graphics but I suppose if you wanted to you could use one of the mini series of Arduino boards and make a standalone gauge for each function. ie one board and display per gauge.

A RPi can be made to load very quickly if needed (sub 10 seconds with relative ease) Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
