BMW 120i questions
I apologise in advance as this is none landy

so after 9.5 years of owning the BMW 118d hatch, it still goes great and feels like a sports car compared to the landy.

however despite my affection for it the time has come to replace it and I'm set on a nearly new 120i which on paper is quicker.

question is has anyone on here driven both and is there much in it, there are very few comparisons on the web and 120i seems to be the car the reviewers over look generally raving about 135s or 140s and saying how good the diesels are or how frugal the 116ds or 118s are. for me the 120i looks a good compromise but cant find a review.

any guidance appriciated DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I had a 123d M sport. The only speeding ticket EVER! 100bhp/litre , twice the MPG of a Golf Gti and quicker.
What's not to like?

As a defender 90 and BMW 116i auto owner, both bring a smile and I can recommend both, albeit chalk and cheese.

thats what I find they are both great in their own way as you say chalk and cheese, the 118d has been brilliant, but I keep my cars a long time and with the diesel thing fancied a petrol 120i which seams to tick all my boxes DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I was forced to change my 123d last December due to an absolute Censored wit vw driver crashing into the side of my 1-series, I ended up with a new 125d M-sport 8 speed auto - love it, 225bhp, 50 mpg and the auto is good.

Thanks BP man I was thinking the auto would be nice but definitely fancy a petrol and the 140 135 are a bit hard core for me DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

not sure it helps but we had an M135i on a lease for a couple of years: ballistically quick, but remote and emotionless to drive, with fidgety suspension. Eco mode felt like the handbrake was on, standard was ok and sport had better gear change (auto box) but not a car I bonded with. Drove it hard but it didn't give much feel back to driver. It could well be that the 120i is a better drive, as you have to work a bit harder to get the performance and so might get ore reward. But I'd not have another one.... and my 10 year old Golf GTI Mk 5 remapped is much more more fun and rewarding.

Have a look on babybmw or m3cutters forums

If you are looking at a newer f series, they seem lighter and more responsive, also available with X drive

My 116i auto is transformed by winter tyres from a spinning top to something a little more sure footed, well it went up a snow covered Belach with no issues, so perhaps you don't require X drive. Time is precious, waste it wisely...

My wife had a 116i and was completely useless in the snow. I'd describe it as an Ok car, however it was totally reliable and never let her down. Defender 90XS SW

they are a great car, I've had 2 one series. The new ones are just an evolution, if you liked the early ones you'll think the new ones are fantastic! My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html

Well almost 1 week with the new one , its quiet , its smooth, and its quick. not sure about the auto yet but do like it in town. car dosnt feel as planted as the old one which was a go cart but my confidence will grow no doubt. Where I was averaging 42mpg in the old one I've got 35 in the new one, doing the same journey( in the 90 I get 32!! ) this is commuting from Solihull to Birmingham and back in traffic DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
