5" fit in a TD5 band TDCI without spacers so i'm pretty sure they'd fit in a TDI
 Not too sure why you want a switched live. as usually your switch live comes from the headunit, quite often labeled a a remote/Aux ? with the main power feed taken off the battery ??? |

Thanks mate - I’ll whip the 4” speakers out and see what space I have behind. I can but some 5” spacers but wasn’t sure if the dash would still need cutting or not.
The switched live is to power the amp. I know there is one on the headunit but on my old t4 there was a male switched live (blade type) in the fuse box which was handy as could simply connect a female blade straight to it. Wondered if there was anything kicking around the defender fuse box that would do the same thing rather than have the wires going up to the headunit itself. |

You may struggle without spacers if the 5 inch speakers are deeper. The wiper motor is quite close to the speaker cut out on a Tdi

More than happy to use spacers, was just wondering if the magnets will fit in the space without having to cut the dash. I guess it depends on the speaker really though.

I've fitted focal k2 powers to both a TD5 and puma. From memory there about 68 mm deep!? No spacers needed. Iirc in a TD5 fuse 33 is for heated seats and blank. I'm sure a poke around with a multimeter will soon find you one

I used the spacers and did not like the look or fit at all. So I cut the dash out to suit the 5" speakers, looks miles better.

You would definitely need a spacer on the passenger side to clear the wiper motor on a tdi. On the drivers side you may get away without depending on the shape of the speaker. At worst you may need to enlarge the hole, but there is plenty of depth behind for the magnet so no worries there. I made my own spacer for the passenger side using a jigsaw and some mdf. Just sprayed it black to suit. Looks fine. I also fitted tweeters into the top of the dash and these have really made a big difference to sound quality.
Not sure now, by I may actually have fitted 6" speakers

Thanks guys.
I’ve fitted 17cm Morels in the real and have some 13cm Morel components that’s I’d like to get in the front. Will take the current 10cm speakers out and see what’s needed. I’d be happy using a spacer if it means getting them in and will then have a think about the best options for tweeter placement too. I did wonder about a heated seat supply being available so I will check that out. It’s a powered Alpine sub that I’m fitting too. The whole install is from my VW T4 and is an awesome set up so want to use as much of it as possible in the Defender. |

How did you cut the top of the dash to fit the tweeters and where did you fit the crossovers? |

To mount the tweeters up there you just need a hole saw. The top dash comes off. but if your careful you can drill insitu. The top is a hard foam on a steel frame.
