300tdi turbo rebuild
Is it possible to rebuild at home a 300tdi turbo by using a rebuild kit?
Do you still need to get the turbo rebalanced?

A mate has a 300tdi and thinks the turbo might need a rebuild 1999 Defender TD5 110

No it is definitely possible to repair a turbo at home. Providing the housings are in good nick, so no impeller damage, then it is just a case of sourcing a CHRA core and replacing it. You have the choice of a standard or i think their is some upgraded semi-hybrid CHRAs out their to be had.

As always it is just down to how competent a mechanic you are and having a go...

I have a spare TD5 one that I am thinking of having a go at. Have a go I say Thumbs Up

Having seen it on Wheel Dealers it does look easy enough. It was just the need to get the balancing done I wasn't sure about 1999 Defender TD5 110

I entirely forgot to say that key to this fix is cleanliness. I guess it goes without saying, but hey Rolling Eyes
