Did you take props off to check them for play?
is it engine speed related? Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop |

I don't think it is engine speed related as it occurred when I was coasting at 5mph and also when driving at 30.
I didn't take the props off, only looked for play as attached to the vehicle. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |

^Just to make sure we're on the same page.
He means engine speed (RPM), not vehicle speed... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Vidrations on a Defender can be a nightmare to diagnose.
Wheels out of ballance.Usualy happens at certain speeds, above 40mph. Wheel bearings, could be this,as you can feel it at all speeds.Check by jacking each wheel up & gripping tyre at 12 & 6.then 9 & 3,and shake the wheel. If there is movement at 9 & 3,but not 12 & 6,then this points to swivel bearings. U/J's as JST said you need to take them off to check properly. Loose wheel???? Probably not,but I have seen it before. Marc. |

Yes, 5mph was at idle and no rev counter on a Tdi for 30mph but not idle! And thanks Sharkey/JST - I'll check soon and post an update. Thank you BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |

I had a vibration under my 90 Td many years ago at slow speed or coasting to a halt, turned out that the handbrake was binding. Stripped and cleaned it out and was all good after.
Could be worth a look. 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

Handbrake tends to snatch at those speeds, 5mph. ESP after a run when its hotter. Not sure I have had vibration from it.
Ujs unlikely at 5mph. In fact will give it some thought as not sure at such low speeds. Other than wheel nuts as ^^^^^ Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop |

Finally got round to having a look at this.
I changed the engine mount at the weekend and the vibration seems to have gone away. I can only assume it was sending a vibration down the chassis that I could feel through my feet. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |
