Many thanks for this post Kev, I believe we spoke at the Stratford upon Avon show last year as well.

My plan for shipping into Canada first due to 'easier' customs formalities looks good at the moment and I am cautiously optimistic about insurance but time will tell !

Appreciate the info about the EPA letter. Did yours have any sort of time limit on it? If I could get one now would it cover
me for the rest of 2018 and crossing into Alaska and then back into Canada before hitting Washington state in your opinion?

not sure if it will help much or at all but I do have a relative out in the states?

lovin it 66north. giving me more reason to go. I guess the reason for death valley would be the fact that it's so well known / heard of. Thumbs Up

A friend in the US tried to help me with insurance. He proposed to put my car on his US policy and have me as a named driver. That plan backfired because when it came to entering the vehicle details, there wasn't a 2014 Defender on their system because you can't legally own 2014 Defender in the US.

Death Valley has miles of old mining trails and ghost town to explore. Definitely worth a visit.

Interesting that you drove off road through Death Valley. I spent a couple of weeks mountain biking through it, (however this was before it became a National Park in the early 90's) and I didn't see many vehicles off the established dirt roads.

I loved the history of the tourist trade in Death Valley with the Fred Harvey Company and Death Valley Scotty trying to make a success of it.

It sounds like it has become a 4x4 destination spot, I may have to go again.

To clarify, the driving I did in Death Valley was all on the established dirt roads. There are miles of tracks to explore and the place is littered with mining relics.
