DPF Rattle
Over the last few months my 2012 2.2 has developed a very rattley exhaust, at first thought it was the turbo heat shield. Investigations proved this not to be the case. Just like old cars it sounds like the baffles have all become un-welded or broken in a silencer, but this is right up front so can only be the dpf cartridge rattling round in the exhaust after the turbo.
Any ideas how to shut it up as it is bloody annoying. I cant just remove it as I work in London and surprisingly enough was stopped a few weeks back for a TFL emissions check outside the old Olympic stadium on the A12, passed the test apparently man said it was lower end of euro 5 band, not bad for a dpf that has done 260 thousand miles. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Are you sure it isn't one of the two heatshields on the dpf?

I think there is a lower one that the top "turbo" one attaches to.

My top one had loads of cracks in it when I took it off. A new top one is around £35 but I used some aluminum off cuts and rivets to patch it up.

Both the heat shields are not in the greatest condition but I have wedged them and tied them so its not them. But the noise is very loud rattling and goes with revs once forcing gas through it. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.
